How does Iron Golem work??

Now, I know the basics of the Iron Golem: you have to make it out of a weapon, I know that. But you have to drop the weapon on the ground, then summon the golem right? But then doesn't the item go away? When does the golem die? What happens if you drop an item on the ground, summon a golem out of it, and then leave the game without picking up the item?

1. Your metal item (can include armor) becomes the golem.
2. Your golem goes away when you die or it gets killed in a fight.

The item is used up = it disappears. It "becomes" the golem.

The golem dies when it is killed by an enemy, or another golem is summoned in it's stead. It will stay with you between games.

Ah, that clears it up a lot. I thought that it would disappear between games, which is why I couldn't understand why people made iron golem's out of expensive weapons. :)

The golem can also die if it gets "lost".
This can happen if you are walking/running rather than teleporting, especially in underground environments with lots of twists and turns. You turn around and suddenly find the damned thing isn't there anymore :unimpressed:

is there any thing as golem fights? who makes the strongest golem, and let them fight?
I went through a "minion dueling" phase years ago. It was loads of fun to watch and fun to play too, as it takes a bit of maneuvering to get them to actually confront and attack each other. IIRC an A5 Barb merc was generally considered the top Merc bacause of his speed and his Stun attack. Don't recall ever trying it with Golems though. But I'm guessing it would be a pretty slow duel. That was back in my pre-LoD days, so I never saw a Shadow Master/Valkyrie duel, which I suspect would be the most fun to see.
