How do you people do MF runs without getting sick of it??

Everytime I try to do MF run, dosen't matter boss run or pit run, I'd get so bored after at most 5 times. Now I'm seeing people do 50 pit runs just for testing, or do thousands of runs for charity. How the heck do you even be able to sit there for that long? I know I'd throw my computer out of window before even finish 100 runs. Seriously I'd like to know how do you even be able to keep up with it.

We MF with smiles on our faces, and songs in our hearts. With that in our favor, who could get sick of it?

I have a doctorate in mathematics. It breeds a high threshold for boredom.
I like killing Pindle. It certainly beats doing Topology. :p

What I tend to do is do a half a dozen or so MF runs, then change chars for a while and, if I've got time, then do a few more. It works for me.

many people also have several MF characters and they run through several different areas just to keep things interesting. it also helps to lead really boring lives because then killing Baal 500 times is legitimately exciting! :teeth:

For me, particularly with meph runs, i tend to make it a goal to see how fast i can get each set of ten done in. It becomes a game all in itself to beat my own times.

Also, i take a break every ten runs. Run a different area, switch chars, whatever. Just to break it up.

And let's not forget: I lead a really boring life so killing baal 500 times is legitimately exciting! :D

I don't MF anymore.... I think? Well I do, but WAY less than before. Why? Because I'm freaking sick of it, it destroys the game. I have to force myself to do one pit run and 2-3 meph runs...

Topology is a zillion times more interesting than doing Pindle runs. Xome on, people, MF'ing is so lame. Besides, it is cheating.

I think you can compare MF to gambleling (in real life). It does't matter that there is a really small change you can win, the fact that there is one, keeps you going.

I could do a lot of MF runs because it didn't bore me. Well, the WS K wasn't boring at any rate. Meph is different but the rewards are pretty good most of the time so that kept me interested. The WS K can spawn monsters that can theoretically kill me, that makes it less boring for me.

Also I rarely did a few hundred runs in a row. But I did a few every day and in time that becomes quite a lot. Wearing a ton of MF helped me keep the numbers "low" while getting good results.

Another thing was that basically every item that dropped had some use. Either for my grail, for one of my characters, or for a giveaway. So I didn't feel like I was wasting my time. Well, at least not wasting it any more than just playing any computer game... :teeth:

What keeps me going on and on is the fact, that statistically the next monster may be the one to drop [isert 1337 item here] ! :D

I can do maybe 10-15 at a time and not get bored so long as I can cross a few more items off my grail list. it's all about the collecting.

a good way to get distracted is by playing some great music in the background, turn it real loud and scream along while pounding mephisto into pulp... it works :D

yup, I agree with Karmeus here :)

Here's how I do my runs...

Phase #1 : Choose music, generally something like White Zombie
Phase #2 : load the game and start up players 8 hell game
Phase #3 : Do the actual runs
Phase #4 : Rinse and repeat
Phase #5 : if the CD ends, change it or use winamp to randomly pick songs

What the actual runs are well...I do them in this order:
1. Countess (for runes)
2. Pits (for stuff)
3. Andariel (for lower level stuff and rings/amulets, uber good here)
4. Mephisto (for stuff)
5. RoF/CS (for runes and stuff)
6. Eldritch / Shenk (for stuff)
7. Baal (for stuff)

This way I don't get bored for doing just one monster or area...and I find lots of stuff too :)

Heh. This is the very same thing that drives me to do full area clears, sends me into every single side area, and hunt down every single fallen. Who knows just what might drop down in that cave over yonder?:grrr:

Borlag - what do you mean by "if the CD ends"... I have 20gb of mp3s that I just hit random in the background  (iirc you have even more :p)

I do find MF runs a little tedious, so I don't do a lot of them, even though I have 2 chars whose sole purpose in life is to MF - a barb who runs pindle and occasionally Baal and a sorc who runs meph and occasionally A5SUs and Baal. These are both in 1.09 where I'm attempting to achieve a self-found holy grail, hence a worthwhile thing to spend my time on IMHO. In 1.10, I play untwinked HC and my highest char is 31. I'm sure NM Meph will see some action with most of my chars to get them kitted up, but otherwise I have no real intention of MFing much in 1.10 at this stage.

Well, not everyone has 119,2Gb of MP3:s on their harddrive

And occasionally I do use CD:s on my stereos rather than files on my computer..though I've moved nearly all CD:s to mp3:s already, just ran out of space earlier...

I have the same feeling with Vorbiss, I always think that the next baal's drop will be IKSC :D
