How do you namelock?

I have entered the dueling scene recently (last several months) and I thought that I had namelock down but apparently I have no idea how to after describing it to someone.

I thought it was simply teleporting on top of them and using the desired skill. Apparently there is more to this than meets the eye. Can soemoen please describe exactly how this works and what it does? I am usint a T/V right now and I think it will help alot with this char for the FoH and smite options.

namelock basically means moving your cursor over your opponent [so you can see his name and life bar] and holding the mouse button.

it's handy in a lot of situations, because once you got someone in a namelock, you can use your skills directly aimed at him (or teleport on top or w/e), even if he's no more on your screen.
namelock lasts until let go your mouse button or your opponent teleports or walks/runs or charges so far away from you that he disappears from your minimap. (actually a bit less)

I'm glad you found it. If you posted a link or something constructive, that would have been different. All you did was boost your post count by discrediting my intelligence.

I did not know if it has been specifically asked before or not, thats why I said, "I'm sorry if this has been answered before...". Also, people don't have to learn everything about d2 in these forums. They can also be told how to perform an action while actually playing the game.

It would be helpful if you could post the link or some information that you found. I would appreciate it much.

I'm not an expert, technically I'm an absolute noob at namelocking

If you namelock with the right button you can try using a skill such as unsummon to hold a namelock without doing anything, this allows you to hit a hotkeyed action such as teleport, blizzard or whatever skill you would like ot do at the target opponent.

Leftclick namelock can be done with Throw (as long as you are not using throwing weapons) and then you can for some reason use a rightclick spell against the target.

Better await some of the expert...

At the moment I'm at work and the firewall doesnt allow me to look at youtube or myspace. I also cant get online until sometime later tonight around 11ish if thats ok. But I play on west non-ladder mostly. I have one ladder character but its a summoning necro and he doesnt have enigma for teleport which is one of the main things I want to use namelock for.

I might have enough idea of how to do it as it is but if you want, I can get on later tonight and see how its done with more hands-on experience.
