Im pretty sure its 2 hours.

    Just join a game called:

    Muleparking
    Mule parking
    mule-parking

    or something like that.

And just stay there for 2 hours

    worked for me

Yes, 2 hours. However you can reset counter simply clicking the mule. Not even need to make a game.

You mean clicking to reset the counter doesn't protect against expiration?

I meant that clicking (actually, double-clicking) the mule resets counter to '10 days remaining'. You don't have to create a game for reseting the 10 days counter. But that don't prevent your char for expiring.
It was only a comment. You need to stay in a game for 2 hours to cancel that counter.

still a bit confused, but maybe its that newb level thing. All my chars are well ove rlvl 70 and some are retired to mule status. I just join a game to make the message go away.

No if your mule says 3 days left to expire then you double click him the timer resets to 10 days. If you want the timer to go away you must play or join a game for 2 hours. The running in place bug works great for that.

I just leave d2 running when I leave for work. When I get home my mule is permed. I usually just join some random act1 game and join the party. Some of my mules are in act2 with 0 exp because of the party.

I just use the sorc for all my mules. Before I sleep or go off for work, I'll place a book on top of right hand button the mouse. The sorc fires off fire bolt non-stop... the mule becomes permanent\ when I come back.

The rule used to be you had 48 hrs ofter creation to play that char for 2 hrs. Now when you create a charcter you get the 10 day countdown to expire untill it goes off for the big dirtnap!

After the initial 2 hr of game time. the charcters can sit for 90 days till expiration and you get a countdown starting at 60 days.

i never thought of using a sorc for this. I use chars related to the items and I got a stack of nickles taped togeather that i put on the shift key and wedge the mouse under the keyboard.
