How do multiple forge quests work?

I've been rushing some of my own characters for forge quests, running two copies and fast-switching. I opened a public game offering to rush people for tips while I went along and the two guys who joined offered me their forge quest. But then when we got there there was only one rune? The gems seemed more numerous, but is there only one rune drop no matter how many people are in the party that need the quest? Thanks!

Only one rune will drop, but the number of gems increase with more players.

And thank goodness for this, otherwise every "kill diablo" game in hell would have someone trying to get 8 rune drops.

Yeah, that makes sense. It doesn't raise the average chance of a higher rune dropping does it? Can I unparty my own character that I'm rushing and take the forge from the other public players, then reparty for diablo and Act V, coming back later for the drop? That might not be worth the trouble in normal, but perhaps nightmare and hell?

    Nope.

Yep. As long as you're not partied with whoever's doing the forge, your own forge won't be lost, and you can save it and do the quest later.

Im' a little confused guys. Do you need to unparty all members to get a seperate rune for each rush? I just got my first rushes to 1.11, but couldn't do the forge. I could pick the hammer up with one of the rushes, but it kept saying "I can't" when I clicked on the forge. All seven rushes were partied at the time, includeing the rusher.

Kinda dumb question, but are you sure you had Mephisto's Soulstone in your inventory? That's the problem I sometimes get.

Also, in response to your question: Yes. You'll have to unparty and do a serperate forge for each character, each in a serparate game. It's a huge pain in the ***, but meh, the Forge runes can be pretty fun.

Yes, I had a soulstone one me, but turns out I had to do two things. One: unparty, except for with the rusher (seperate game just for the two of them). Two: Talk to Deckard before smashing for soulstone!

    Thanks for your help all!

You probably had a soulstone from the wrong difficulty. Talking to Cain in act 4 will provide the correct one.
