How big do you want -your- inventory?

How big do you want -your- inventory?

Diablo's inventory was tiny. Really tiny. You had to choose between money and other items tiny.

Diablo II was better, but it was still too small. Money never stole inventory space and there was an in-game stash for each character that could hold another inventory worth of space in Lord of Destruction, but item size increased and there was more to grab. Trading became much more important for high-end gear since there was a greater chance than in D1 your gear was legit, and there were many times more items dropped.

Sure, in D2: LOD your stash was 40 spaces, your inventory 40 spaces, and the cube 8 more spaces (12 total - 4 for the cube), but when most items took 3, 4, or 6 spaces, and you kept spare potions, keys, charms, and tomes in 10-50% of your inventory, that leaves little room for loot.

"Stash the stuff" you may say. That works if I have an especially important item I wish to keep, but I barely have room for some magic find gear, my cube, gems awaiting transmuting, and a spare item or few I happen to hold there. If you're like me, you did the sanest thing and made extra characters or accounts to hold all this extra stuff, especially if you trade. Doing this was easy since accounts and characters are free to make.

This storage shortage is why in D3 I hope inventories and stashes are tremendous. Give us 100 item inventories and 200 item stashes for our sanity. (To all those who protest, I say screw all semblance of realism; I don't want to concern myself with inventory management every minute or three!) We'll help your servers by cuting down the number of mules we need to store our gear and feel less likely to want to warp to town every three minutes.

What do you think?

I believe our days of painstakingly transfering items to and from mules while worrying if we will be given a temp ban resulting in a loss of anything not yet picked up from the gound are OVER! After briefly reading through some of the wish list for patch 1.13 I noticed an overwhelming amount of "bigger stash" comments as well as hopes for an easier way to mule items. Blizzard most definately got the message and will likely(hopefully) implement a bigger stash and possibly a better way to xfer items in the patch. This would be good for the time being, but they had better design an easy to use system with a HUGE stash for each char in D3. The frustration and time taken to xfer items in D2 was rediculous and I hope to jebus that there is a bank system put in place or some other form of a common stash to quickly and easily access your items without the chance of losing them

Charge us large amounts of gold per slot to buy more slots on the stash. Make the cost exponentially greater as you buy more. Make the max amount of buyable slots very high, but very unlikely to attain unless you're one hell of a businessman and have a lot of gold or have just been playing your character for a long time.

Just an idea, I dunno. *Shrug*

That's actually a pretty good idea, gives players an option to buy a little bit more space instead of pouring millions of gold into gambling :hang:

There should of course be a cap to the amount of squares you can buy (lets say 40). But after around 20 or 30 any average player would not want to bother massing those millions of gold for those last 10 squares. Could also be cool to have your badass level 99 Barbarian full to the brink with those extra 40 squares he purchased, proving how rich he is! :alright:

Re: How big do you want -your- inventory?

It is a good idea, but I would personally like to see gold sinks that provide something more exciting than some bank slots that just as easily could have been given to me in the first place.

With things like health and mana globes to speed up the pace of play, I would rather have something to circumvent the most time consuming parts of Diablo for me.. managing my inventory and transferring items to trade! Just giving us a large enough inventory and a huge shared stash eliminates both of those *boring* parts of D2. (Also, searching my mules for a misplaced item while having a buyer waiting is embarassing!)

Good ideas, and good OP question.

First, I want to say that having to store stuff in the cube was ridiculous! That should never have to occur. I'm sure most of us know how annoying it is when you get 3 flawless gems and you have to empty your cube by clicking 10 times to use the darn thing. Then Bashiok or someone states that the cube was good in d2 because it had those extra item spaces in it! What a bad thing to say!

And what's with the gold limits in d2? There are these equations based on level, and an equation for your chr and one for your stash. What was the problem with letting us carry more gold? We should be able to gamble for a good hour straight if we build up enough gold on one chr.

Anyway, final answer is the more the merrier. The number of fans who will play and love the game is proportional to the amount of space we get. I personally would like a vault to store enough suits of armor to supply a small army. And, items should be stackable in your vault. Like let's say you have 3 white archon plates with 452 def on all of them. Those should stack, so you see one archon plate artwork with the number 3 in the coner. If you happen to have 2 shako's with the exact same def, those stack too. It would be extremely rare to have two identical raven frosts with the same AR and dex mods, but if you got them, they stack.

So this way, you could potentially have thousands of items and the bnet server would only have to keep track of the number in the corners of how many of each identicle item you have. So if you have 100 squares in your stash, you could put 100 rings in there and have 999 of each identical ring on each slot. Of course, this is an extreme case.

Of course, you can click and drag the items to unstack them. And, there should be a button called auto-stack which stacks everything stackable.

Also, I would like an auto sell button where you are just standing at the stash and there is one section of your stash marked for selling. You put like 20 items in there and click a button and it sells eveything you put in. The gold value is shown, and you are asked 'are you sure' to confirm you want to sell it all. See, if we have as much space as we dream of, we are going to need fast ways of clearing stuff out.

i want massive account storage space. a big part of this type of game is collecting items, i want to have the room to do it and not make 20 characters to hold stuff for me. also want a bigger personal inventory too

I'm with Apocalypse. I want unlimited for collecting the grail. An alternative would be really large to prevent muling and a built-in checklist for your grial. Then you wouldn't have to keep an Isenharts stored somewhere.

Re: How big do you want -your- inventory?

This topic also reminds me of how annoying gem hoarding was in Diablo 2. I'm hoping that if they keep all those 1-square items like gems, runes, jewels etc. (assuming they use a similar inventory system to D2 of course). There will be multiple item select where you click on a blank square and drag your mouse to select a whole group of smaller items. Clicking on each gem and transferring them to your stash one by one was a massive time waster.

Isn't Blizzard sticking with their collectible bags idea? Where as you progress through the game you get up to 4 extra bags all containing a set number of squares. Anyway that seems fine, it will be nice to work up to you max potential through questing.

How big do you want -your- inventory?
Small.

Blizzard should make the players pay or make an effort to get more inventory space and not spoonfeed like in D1/D2.

I'm always tremendously annoyed by the term "spoonfeed". it seems to me everything players do that isn't intented to do (fast rushes, exploit bugs, wanting things easier/faster/bigger) is now spoonfeed spoonfeed spoonfeed.

HELLO WAKE UP - this is a game, and we have enough of **** in real life. I don't always have enough time to do things the normal way, and thats MY choice. if you wanna walk from rogue camp to andariel, go ahead, who's stopping you? But don't you dare to call me a spooner because I happen to take blueish wormholes to the same locations.

Re: How big do you want -your- inventory?

I'm in support of a gigantic stash and a reasonably sized inventory (slightly larger than the current one).

Inventory is already upgradable by purchasing bags to increase its space so that's one nice money sink .. unless the bags are drop-only items.

take a look at bloody runescape, HUGE STASH ( called bank there, but its exactly same ) and not so big inventory, i like that idea, think it would rock d3 space hidiosy

That makes much sense. Consider this, how many colossus voulges WOULD YOU be able to carry around -with a full equipped armor and stuff- without being hindered? I think 1 would be a burden already...

Then again, howmany colossus voulges WOULD YOU be able to stash at your room? I think my room has room for 100 or more.

D2 stashsize is way off, that's for sure.

Re: How big do you want -your- inventory?

Remember when D2C came out and it actually had a stash, compared to D1 where you could only keep what you could carry and each stack of 5000 gold took up one inventory slot? I remember going to the stash in the Rogue Encampment the first time and thinking, 'Aw yeah, now THIS is more like it!'.

Anyway, nostalgia aside, I like the current D2 player inventory size, since if in D3 we won't have to allocate that space for things like charms, but I agree with having a much larger stash. If having a dinky chest hold a copious amount of items seems physically implausible, then allow us to buy a storeroom or safehouse that acts as a giant stash (not something you need to necessarily be able to physically enter, but just a room in town where you can click on the door and opens up a giant inventory window that's used to store your stuff).

tl;dr - I agree with KillaMike.

It needs to be infinite!
look at the SPF and the use of atma some people horde over 30,000 items and counting

I think a better trade system will make the need for stash space less.

I really hope so, but having easy access to your items is a huge part of trading. Lets hope they get it right!

a checklist of every unique and set item in the game would have made me enjoy d2 alot more. i am a collector so i want to collect every single unique i can every set i can. i do not care much for rare collecting but the items like uniques i want them and i want to save them forever.

i dont see why a huge shared stash is such a bad idea, smaller inventory hugh stash that is account wide
