How amazingly easy it is to get medical marijuana in California Last night I was watching the local Bay Area news and saw a report on just how easy it is to get medicinal marjuana in CA. They sent in a undercover reporter to a Medican clinic (I think that's what it's called) who filled out a form stating that he was suffering from knee pain. He gave the form to the desk attendant but never got to see a doctor. Instead, in return he got perscription for medicinal marijuana (by mail I think. I cant remember entirely). It was a legal prescription signed by a doctor, stamped with the state of California logo. There were a number of choices which he then had in ways of getting his prescription filled. There are various pot "stores", clinics, whatever you care to call them, that a person can go to and they'll fill a prescription for medicinal marijuana there on the spot. But, just to show how easy it is to get the marijuana, the reporter called a prescription filler who would come by the house or meet you anywhere you'd like. They decided to meet in a parking lot of a convenience store, and the guy who gave him his prescription gave it to him right there in the parking lot in a lil plastic baggy for $200 cash. They showed the guy and he didnt look very professional at all. They also did a background check on him to see if he was doling out pot legally and he was. What they also found was that he was a convicted illegal drug user and had a large criminal file. The news station claimed that they gave the marijuana to a clinic who gives it to patients in dire need of it but cant afford it. In addition, they mentioned that under the regulations set by California, it is possible for prescriptions as large as 3 pounds of marijuana to be held by patients AND by up to 3 people who server as the pateint's caretakers. Now I dont know about you, but this all seems a bit ludicrous to me. It seems like California is handing out marijuana willy nilly. Prescriptions for it are given out for just about anything, just about anyone can fill the prescription, and the amount someone can own is more than is probably needed. Plus, it's more than likely that some of the people who get large amounts for their medical needs are selling a bit of it on the side. Just to give a comparison, the law in California (at least where I live) is that obtaining 3 ounces or more of illegal marijuana is considered a felony. So why would anyone buy it illegally if they have the option of easily getting legally? I'm wondering if there's going to be a crackdown on legal marijuana pretty soon or if it will just get more out of control. As it is, there's practically no restrictions on getting medical marijuana in California.
