Holy Freeze or Defiance?

I know that Holy Freeze can slow enemies, but how does this compare with Defiance?

What I have seen using a Defiance merc is that it allows your merc and even the weakest skeles/revives to tank. Something a caster wants, right?


Also. If I am in hell diffaculty can i just create a NM game to get a Holy Freeze merc, or did I miss that boat by getting into hell?

You can still create and join nightmare games once you've reached hell, you just can't view them. How to join a game you can't view? You would need to use a character that has not yet reached hell to identify the game name, then you can enter it with the other character.

And defiance merc's are, in my experience, really only useful if you (or he) is a defensively focused character. (Think paladin with maxed Holy Shield, ultra-high defense Stone armor, etc.) Unless your defense rating is astronomically high, it won't have much of an impact. I tend to go with Holy Freeze for slowing, or Might for added damage (which translates of course into additional life leach, and surviveability.)

You mentioned skellies and revives, so I'm assuming this is for a summon necromancer. I'd recommend a might merc, as I think that'll do you better than either holy freeze or defiance. May want to try that one out.

Between those two, though, I'd pick holy freeze for the reason Noodle mentioned, and it's just more useful all around.

Normally I pick the Holy Freeze merc as a way to gain an additional type of elemental damage. This makes dealing with immunes a little easier. That said my most recent character used a Defiance merc. Reason for this is that the defense bonus boosted my own character's defense into the range where it did some actual good. But by and large I use either Holy Freeze or a Might merc.

In most cases, Holy Freeze merc is the choice of many unless you using a build that required fallen corpse to be effective.

might merc every time mate.......just for the damage and survivability factors.

i'd just like to say try them both then use the one that you feel is most comfortable to your playing style
