Holy Fire Zealots: Am I Missing Something?

Holy Fire Zealots: Am I Missing Something?

I've noticed several posts from people who are playing or intending to play Holy Fire zealots in SP, and I'm a little confused, because Holy Fire seems inferior to both Holy Freeze and Holy Shock for a zealot: The added damage from fully synergized Holy Fire is lower than either of the other two, and you don't have the slowing effect of Holy Freeze. Holy Fire for a ranger I understand, but for a zealot? Am I missing some hidden advantage?

Thanks,

The damage isn't that bad after the synergies (resist fire and salvation). Still inferior to HS in damage and HF in cool effects, but viable nonetheless.

No, there really isnt any advantage of playing a holy fire pally over a frost of shock pally, and by 'several posts' you mean 1 really. ;)

Some people play builds because they are (or at least seem) fun, not because there is an advantage.

Thanks, and besides the post we're both thinking about, I remember seeing a couple of people...well, at least one person...say he was going to play one in a tourney....

Hmmmm...

Uh...it all depends on what your definition of several is. ;)

Sounds reasonable, sayeth the long-time fan of untwinked rangers and hunter druids.

Hmmm, I could see a hybrid fire ranger / zealot as having possibilities. Thank you.

Ah - thanks. I tried one, but came down with a slight case of dead before the good skills kicked in. I'll take a look.

Not really an advantage, but I wanted instant gratification after playing some more frustrating slower-developing characters (at least on /p8). However now that I'm doing it, I can see that Holy Freeze wouldn't have been that terrible a wait anyhow. ;)

Ignoring Price and Inaccesability... this could be a fun build

Pheonix Zerker Axe
100% Chance To Cast level 40 Blaze When You Level-up
40% Chance To Cast Level 22 Firestorm On Striking
Level 13 Redemption Aura When Equipped
+350-400% Enhanced Damage (varies)
-28% To Enemy Fire Resistance
+350-400 Defense Vs. Missile (varies)
+50 To Life
+5% To Maximum Lightning Resist
+10% To Maximum Fire Resist
+15-21 Fire Absorb (varies)

Dragonscale
+(170-200)% Enhanced Defense
Fire Absorb (10-20)%
+5% to Maximum Fire Resist
+(15-25) to Strength
+10 to Hydra
+15% to Fire Skill Damage
Adds 211-371 Fire Damage

with some nicely placed Facets and who knows what else... it'd be fun in the world of imaginary

IIRC +15% to fire skill damage works twice like sorc's fire mastery on enchant. That's ~32% to fire damage (but only when going melee). Plus 211-371 from the shield itself (though you would get that without Holy Fire)
But the shield is rather rare and is rather weak compared to HoZ

Edit: removed Dragonscale stats as SincereX13 already posted about that while I was typing

That's the challenge. I've killed 3 hc ones in 4 weeks, lvl 31,52 and 55. At least I'm getting better.

Understood. I'll try one when my current character kacks it. (I say when because he's an experimental HC untwinked SoB / Thorns hunter druid - kinda hard to buy life insurance for. ;) )

I know what you mean. My premiums went up again with the last death. Do you find untwinked hc addicting?

Thorns/hunter?.....good luck with that.

Absolutely. The victories mean so much more when the penalty for defeat is so high. Also, winning is a test of skill, not blind persistance or a big wallet.

Thorns/hunter?.....good luck with that.
Oh, I'm sure I'll make it to Guardian in a couple of weeks. BTW, want to buy some oceanfront land in Nebraska?

As others have pointed out, fun counts too. Get a Kuko or Demon Machine for your weapon switch, and you could have a powerful hybrid character.
