yeah, loaded up d2 LoD for the lulz ... downloaded ATMA to keep me from clawing my eyeballs out while questing ... my #2 kid was like "hey, is that Diablo 2 again?"

he started a sorc and is now ~ level 38.

I always start a fishymancer when reloading the game and he's ~ 49.

So brutal to not have all the crazy gear that I used to have way back in the day after playing this game until my eyes bled. Still missing a few items that I never found. Stormlash, Zod rune, Tyrael's and .... that's about it.

Pindle after Pindle run ... Pits after Pits run ... Countess after Countess run ... cows after cows run.

I miss my almost perfect Death's Web already.

Anyways, glad you gaming dinosaurs are still around. Take it easy.

I dropped 3 Zods yesterday at Travical, I didn't bother to pick them up since they don't count in the RFL round 2 :(

Wow, dinosaur indeed! Dinosaurs are all the rage though in the gaming industry nowadays (Magic the Gathering, Hearthstone...)

Welcome back and may your drops be green and golden! (and your son's too! - I still have some years to wait till my girls can play D2 without my wife killing me for teaching the girls the ropes in gaming :p)

Welcome back. If you are playing one of the later patches, I'd take a look at GoMule rather than ATMA as your muling program.

    oh, I forgot ...

Meph after Meph run, LK run after LK run (thanks my Blizz and Meteorb Sorc!) ... getting annoyed when I accidently changed my map seed and lost my perfect Meph map.

One tele here, go down stairs, tele, tele, tele, tele, blizz, static, static, static ... maybe a meteor or fireballs ... check for loot, tele over to the chest and pop just in case. Save and exit. Rinse and repeat.

    Holy crap ...

Anyways, thanks everyone for the welcome. I'll be around for awhile until I lose interest ... then i'll put D2 on ice for a few years and then reload it again. haha.

    two questions though:

    - why GoMule? Is it significantly better? I'm used to ATMA so ...
    - what's with this Glide wrapper? In this day an age of ... Bitcoin ... can we play d2 on better resolutions or am I stuck with 800x600 on a 15" laptop screen? What's up with that? I did a quick check and it seems that it's not compatible with 1.14d ...

... and i'm still surprised that my login worked.

gomule is WAY easier to use than ATMA. Easier search functionality, loads faster, can copy and paste many items at a time between stashes and characters (you don't have to drag!)

Glide wrapper does indeed allow you to scale up the resolution (the aspect ratio is preserved).

    Hey!

Did they nerf the drops in 1.14d?

man ... it's kinda brutal levelling a fishymancer untwinked.

Yeah, I get it that it's slow going from scratch ... but holy crap man. I haven't seen an eth item in a long time. I rarely see rares (hence, rare I guess) and i've only got a handful of sets and very few uniques. I've seen a recognizable amount of runes so that's fine. This is full players 8 btw.

It's been rough though, real rough. Feels alot worse than before as i've restarted from scratch a bunch of times in the past.

I almost jumped out of my chair when i'm level 51 in NM act 1 just outside the Pits and some random dude dropped a Skin of the Vipermagi ... it's been that bad. I still carry a +1 strength charm in my stash just to highlight how bad things are.

Did I make a noob mistake and loaded the latest patch? Are people playing older patches because of this?

Drops didn't get nerfed. /p8 is just hard untwinked. More rare, green and golden items will drop when you manage to increase your mf%.

Is there any particular reason why you are playing on /p8? In terms of efficiency, it's much better to lower the player setting, even to just p1 if needed, and progress swiftly through the game. Then run certain targets for better items. NM Meph could be a first stop, but personally I'd go straight to NM Pindle. Easy to raise your army in his garden, then run him on the highest setting you can do at a decent pace. You'll gain levels quickly that way, and hopefully some good items to boot. You don't need any resists for him, so you can use a 3os helm and 4os armor, stuffed with perfect Topazes, for some healthy mf%. Or you could go for more killing power, using the SotVM and a Lore helm, to gain xp more quickly, and focus all your mf efforts on Hell. All you'll really need to do well in early hell is a good weapon for your merc and a good range on your CE to be honest. So try to find the best 4os Polearm you can get for him, and when making Insight in it, hope for a good roll on ED% and +Critical Strike. The latter is very important actually.

    O yes, +1 to GoMule. You'll love it !!

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the perspective.

I do players8 out of habit and a challenge. Single player, untwinked.

Yeah, not exactly efficient ... and i'm going to rethink my perspective now that you've said it ...

back in the day when we learned about the playersx command we all tried it out. It's just habit now.

Come to think of it I think i'll drop the difficulty and get to NM Meph/Pindle asap and then Hell Pits and run him 'til my eyes bleed. Why am I punishing myself for?
