What we have here really boils down to the classic debate that a sorc should not be extra strong. There is an old vanguard of sorcers who still hold to the belief that max energy, min ex, min str, and decent vit are the only way to distribute points.
I may point out that for many builds in pre 1.10 this held true. However, in post 1.10, blocking, DR, is now a more common theme in sorc builds. IN order to achieve this less points in energy, vit, and more in str and dex have to be allocated.
My first true Max block/DR tanking archmage wielded a Stormshield even though there was a heavy str requirement. I made up for it with life and mana SCs.
From what I've seen of the new +2 Skills (usually in a 4 socketed monarch), runeword, all it really has done beefed up a Stormshield for a really low price.
BTW at lvl 82, I have 136 in str thanks to bonuses from war travs and an anni. I am already at full max block with my upped viscer so I could easily allocate the points needed to run with a spirit.
What really irritates me is I just finished rounding out my latest archmage to use a viscer and rhymed trolls nest...If I had known that Spirit was coming down the line, I would have modified my build to accommodate right from the start. For those of us who run with archmages any chance at extra + skills is worth it.
Cheers!
