hmm ... item level > 87 ??

So it's a calm evening and I'm browsing through my "Poleax
Code:
es & spears" stash looking for a weapon for my frost zealot's merc. So I came across this:

Code:
Kelpie Snare
Fuscina
Two-Hand Damage: 83 to 153
Durability: 32 of 35
Required Dexterity: 25
Required Strength: 77
Required Level: 33
Spear Class - Normal Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
[B]Item Level: 94[/B]
Fingerprint: 0x299475d3
+10 to Strength
+179% Enhanced Damage
+30 to Minimum Damage
+50 to Maximum Damage
Fire Resist +50%
Slows Target by 75%
+31 to Life (Based on Character Level)

and this:

Code:
Steelgoad
Voulge
Two-Hand Damage: 14 to 51
Durability: 55 of 55
Required Strength: 40
Required Level: 14
Polearm Class - Normal Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
[B]Item Level: 99[/B]
Fingerprint: 0x1cff8191
+65% Enhanced Damage
+30 to Attack Rating
All Resistances +5
+29 Maximum Durability
Hit Causes Monster to Flee 75%
30% Deadly Strike
Ethereal (Cannot be Repaired)

so I would like to ask is this normal and how can it happen? Sometimes I use my brother's items but he doesn't use any item generators (he said he doesn't and I can't find them on his comp). Even if he did I don't think he would generate steelgoad ...

Need clarification please.

The Kelpie is most likely dropped by Diablo (Mlvl 94), the steelgoad from baal (Mlvl 99).

If those for whatever reason is ruled out there's always gambling which result in ilvl = clvl-5 to clvl+4

Edit.

I was owned? I dare say!

Ahh sooo ... thanks everybody!

OMG I'm such a n00b! I thought ilvl is generated via Area Level and not monster level. I guess I will use that link thanks silospen. :)

...but phew.... I'm so glad I'm clean! :)

I know your question has been answered, but also remember that the ilvl will also represent your characters level when the item was gambled.

We are too. You should definitely shower once in a while.

To expand on scwormy's point. Items you gamble (or purchase) will be within +4/-5 ilvl of you. For example, if you have a lvl90 sorc and gamble an amulet, it will have an ilvl of 85-94.

They sort of are.. Act Bosses and some SuperUniques differ from this, but otherwise: Regular monsters ilvl=arealvl, Champion monsters ilvl=arealvl+2, Unique/Minion monsters ilvl=arealvl+3.

i think in lower patches 1.09 you were able to craft items with level requirement above 99
but now
" Items can no longer be created with level requirements higher than 99."

item level stays the same in crafting, only req level is increased

Related question; can the item level exceed lvl99 (via crafting)?
I've been searching for a thread but I can't seem to find it. I remember RTB saying something about ilvls up to 127 (iirc) it would be capped to 99 when the game was saved.

Edit.
Do'h, found it 20 seconds later...

There is an inherently funny vibe about this thread ... and that's because many of us SPF'ers that have been around for awhile (especially the ones that MP or trade) are predisposed to being ... ah, let's say, suspicious.

It's almost a natural reaction now ...

(reading the Item Find Thread ... oooh! Nice item, oh ... look at that ilvl 99, Baal never drops anything like that for me! ...) :wink3:

You know what we should all do? We should create some tshirts special for the SPF and emblazoned on the front would be something like:

"Proud member of the SPF Witch-Hunting crew"

and then on the back something like:

"Don't even try to pass off that SILENCE Crusader Bow as legit!"

 (it was a SILENCE crusader bow, right? my memory is hazy)

Yeah sometimes it feels strange to see people asking questions about "legitness" of pixels in a computer game, especially when rules of this forum clearly say "What you do on your computer is your own business".

I asked the question mainly because I was curious what happened but also because I didn't want that someday my PAT/MAT thread turns into a gambled giffon's eye-style incident.

It's better to prevent than to cure.
