    Higher quality rare item?

    I have never tried this formula:

    1 Perfect Skull + 1 Rare Item + Stone of Jordan = 1 High Quality New Rare Item of the same type

    How this work actually??
    For example if i have ETH Balrog blade with 246ed/8ll/8mana leach and i use this formula on it, what will happen? Probably the soj and the item will be lost for nothing?!?

    you'll get a new rare balrog blade with
    ilvl=max[66, (ilvl=int(0.66*clvl)+(0.66*ilvl_old))]

    You'll lose all the properties of the balrog blade and it will come up with all new properties for the item. I'm pretty sure it will also lose it's etherealness.

    You could use the 6 pskulls + rare recipe which yields a new rare with
    ilvl=max[66, (ilvl=int(0.4*clvl)+(0.4*ilvl_old))]

    Either way, with that weapon, it's definitely a waste.

    I'm not sure where you're getting those max 66s from. You can certainly reroll an ilvl 99 item with a clvl 99 char with 6 PSkulls and get an ivl 78 item out. I'm not 100% sure if the SoJ recipe will give you a temporary ilvl of >99 if you have the right inputs. All ilvls get capped at 99 when an item is saved, but it may be allowed to be over 99 for the remainder of the session in this case (not that it will do you any good other than for additional rerolling).

    Dan - the recipe is mislabelled. It gives you a high level item which does not by any means guarantee high quality. The only thing it keeps from your original item is the item type and the fact that it is rare. You would indeed lose all those good mods and ethereal. The SoJ recipe was designed by Blizzard to sucker people who mass duped/farmed SoJs (and so they were basically free for them) into burning through them and stop ruining the economy.

    I got my (apparantly wrong) info from a non-partner site, so i'm justing go to put my tail betwen my legs and run home now.

    if the soj recipe created a high item level for affix generation, then it's too bad it only works on rares. i'd love me a +1 combat, +50 life grand charm.
