Hi everyone! Got some questions, too ;)

    Hi everyone! Got some questions, too ;)

    First, the introduction:
    I'm a student of computer science in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. Although I don't have much time for D2 ATM, I still plan my best 1.10 barb pretty regulary... and I tking the planning of character might as well be the best part of the game :D

    Anyway, I also have a question: it's about direct damage reductions:
    damage reduced by X
    magic damage reduced by X
    If I remember correctly, there was a nerf of magic damage reduction somewhere in the past, so it could only work once per second or something like that? I mean, it didn't work against spells like Firewall well anymore. What I'd like to know, is how those two mods work now in 1.10. Once per second? Maybe once per frame? Any other limitations making them useless?

    Hi and welcome to the forums :)

    You're right, they used to reduce x per frame, which at one time made them really uber. Currently they do not work like that, so I assume they're still in the -x per second and/or damage source mode.

    As for the PDR%, it's capped at 50%, no other restrictions apply to the direct reduction of -x dmg, just the % value is capped.

    So you're saying... that if 50 Imps shoot firebolts at me, so I'm recieving, say, 20 hits per second, the 'magic damage reduced by X' will still reduce all of them, because they come from different sources? This is what I'd really like to know.

    Yes, if the source is a new one then it gets reduced. If the source deals dmg over time, like firewall etc, then it gets reduced only once. I think RTB or Shade could answer this better, they know this stuff better than I know what's inside my wallet....

    As far as I know, that's how it works. A lot of people underestimate how useful the flat PDR/MDR mods are. To pick a totally non-random example, the Wisp Lightning (as seen fired by Burning Souls etc. in the Worldstone Keep) hits 5 times - and your MDR will apply to each and every single such hit, meaning that it's quite handy indeed.

    Of course you could just not be hit in the first place... :)

    Shade, this is how I've understood it too...and yes, it can be extremely useful for spells and effects that hit multiple times :)

    Slovenia eh? Do you guys still make that really nice red wine (chianti or merlot) I believe. Right after independence we were getting that stuff for $3 a bottle at my supermarket in college, it was nuts, then somebody somewhere figured it out and it's like $10 a bottle now, but boy what a ride.
