Heres a real idea: Identify

I tried putting this in the Official forums to see Bashioks response but i don't have my cd key anymore so please someone copy this post onto the official ones.

So thus far in the diablo Universe identify has been a burden to everything, most of us just got used to it and dont care what happens to it but i think that theres a way to make it better.

So identify usually meant you could not equip the item but i think that should be taken away, you should be able to equip it just fine and maybe every 50 or so enemies killed you could identify automatically part of its attributes as they were being used, but the player might have already guessed depending on what they are, for instance if its glowing with ice you might guess it has ice damage, or maybe you wont see it glow until its identified but maybe when you attack an enemy he will freeze.

So this system would just add a free way of identifing, but lets be honest, your probably going to get an unidentified item for every 30 enemies you kill(going by diablo2) so its not like you can just run around and freely identify everything.

Another random idea i had which might go well with this system is add cursed items, i mean yeah the weopon being crappy might not be enough of a drawback to using it. But if there were a few cursed items it would be cool because well you would not be able to remove them maybe until they got identified by killing monsters or in town or some other way i haven't considered.

This system would work great and the identify system would have a little more depth to it. It would also be cool if cursed items had maybe skill or stat reductions, or even requirements to be naked :p(nullifing all your equipped items)

Three paragraphs start with "so". You are missing punctuation all over the place. Broken grammar. Broken spelling.
Why would I put this up on the official forums? Try a spell-check to make it legible. :p

If i wanted to make an essay to be graded by a teacher i would do that but this isnt one and u can make it any type of lingo you wish. If however because of those mistakes you cant make out the content of my post plz clarify, otherwise theres no point in critiquing my grammar in an idea forum.

This has to be the lamest reply to a post i've ever seen.

Since when, in the history of online gaming, has grammar ever been a concern?

Since he asked us to post it for him. I'm not posting that.

You must not have been on the internet very long if that's the lamest reply to a post you've ever seen.

Needlessly rude.

OP is perfectly legible and his post is a lot better than many other posts you find on online forums from a grammatical point of view. Much, much more coherent than the average battle.net posts which is where he requested it to be reposted.

@OP

Unfortunately I've lost my classic cd key (completely worn off the case, and the harddrive where I had it written down in a file stopped working), so I can't help you.

I'm not sure whether I'd want unidentified items to be useable, or just to remove IDing altogether. IDing certainly didn't do anything for the game in D2.

I didnt have much problems with ID in D2. They probably will change it though. But I honestly think your idea is really bad. I dont want to kill 30 monsters with a mediocre club just too see if its worth anything. I want too see quickly if an item is good or not.

meh using the item to find out the mods is not the best idea... kinda sounds like a burden for me to take off the (good) item i am currently using just to find out the mods on the new one i found...

ID scrolls should be removed and the mods auto revealed upon pickup. easy as that.. u could even throw some lame background story into it like.... Decard Cain taught us all he knew and we can now identify extremely rare and powerful objects.

well its better than just having to ID it period... lol thats jus a suggestion maybe 5, maybe some other mechanic to auto id it, its jus interesting, u know a purple drops and you wanna experiment with it. I mean its got a nice movie type ring to it, you either go to the sage to identify it for u, or you use it urself to understand its core.

Lets say your in a dungeon with lots of skeletal archers and although they have low health, they pound really hard, and your using a 2 handed sword, maybe you found a shield and a one handed sword, both unidentified and decide to try them on because its bound to reduce your damage taken and you might still be able to one hit them.

Maybe that doesnt take into account the iding things in a very clear way, ur weopon is broken and you need a temporary fix for a battle? lots of ways to go about it.

Well yeah u could just do that, but Iding is part of diablo now, u might as well make it better :p. Well yeah but its not like its forcing u to do that, lots of people dont actually realize the potential of weopons even by looking at the extra attributes maybe experiencing first hand is a good way to go about it. And im not saying its the only way, its just some extra mechanic if ur feeling lucky.

I like the idea of being able to equip an unidentified item. That would be useful if identification turns out to be expensive, or scaled in cost depending on the item quality (rare, unique, etc). You'll be able to use the item, while saving to identify the magic properties. I am not sure I like the identify-through-combat, but it is an interesting idea.

Re: Heres a real idea: Identify

Identification couldn't be scaled by item rarity, it should definitely be a spell for the wizard and a scroll or even a spell from a spell book for everyone else as well.

On the topic, I really like this idea. It makes sense. You should also get all the effects on the non-ID item when you equip it. So, if it's +20 health, you get +20 health. And for example, if it's cursed berserking, you lose control of your character for a minute and slay all nearby creatures, and after that you can't unequip it, but it is IDed "cursed: berserking". Then you go and hit with it and it does fire damage, you get "fire damage: x", and after certain swings you determine the amount of it... etc. Makes perfect sense!

Re: Heres a real idea: Identify

One problem is you would have to take off your godly raven frost ring to test ID your unid blue ring. Who is going to want to do that? Maybe in the first few levels when you are naked, but later in the game it seems like no one would do it. Basically what Teh_Thrasher said.

I recomend reading the affix brainstorm thread in d3 General Discussion for all kinds of ideas on cursed items, being allowed to wear unid items, items that have one cursed affix and one godly affix, and so on:

http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=706961

It seems many of us want to wear whatever we want! I'm not sure why we can't use unid items to begin with.
