What would be the best playersettings to run hephasto if ure looking for runes

is it like countess (p1) or is it the higher psettings = more possible runes?

for actually killin him (as opposed to the quest) i think its p8 for more runes, like any other monster except countess (cause of her rune drop chance is a seperate category for items, i dont understand ttoally, but basicaly, p1 is better, and quicker)

hephasto runs should be done at /players 8 (or the highest setting you can manage) because he will drop more items at a higher players setting. the chance is always the same that any specific item drop will be a rune, or anything else, but if he drops more items each time you will see more total runes dropping.

watch out though... he hits HARD!! :teeth:

In general, runes are just plain hard to find ... much less the top end ones. I believe I found a Lum or so from him.

You can use the ATMA DropCalc to get the numbers yourself. Hephasto is actually in the top 10 list of monsters likely to drop a Zod so I would consider sticking with him. The only problem is that he is a tough cookie. Top chances for a Zod on p8:

If I understand the table right, if you run into a pack of apparitions in Tal Rasha's Tomb (or presumably the False Tombs), your twice as likely to get a Zod from the minions as you are from the unique itself. I guess that's explained by the wraith bonus for rune drops - while the unique apparition drop runes at the same rates as non-apparition uniques. From the table it appears, that uniques have better chances of dropping a rune than non-uniques, right?

With figures like those I could see tomb runs become popular for high end runes. A hammerdin or melee paladin (sanctuary!) would probably deal with the ghosts best.

For River of Flame runs - I'm thinking hammerdin again. Smite works incredibly well against Heph. Even if you don't damage him with it, you can pin him to a wall for your merc to kill him.

Melee sorc with Azurewrath would do nicely too...dealing 6k fire damage would help.
Not sure if the +510% damage vs undeads (slvl 13 Sanctuary from Azure) works, since it's nowhere stated that that damage is magic...if it's physical it goes to waste. If it's magical, add in another 1730-2065 magic damage on top of the 250-500 Azure already does. Then there's the 250-500 cold damage, which would get us an average of about 8.6k non-physical damage per hit. Should be good enough for players 8 runs.

@Icebird: That's correct. The relative odds may be good compared to other monsters but the absolute odds are pretty frightening. Unfortunately, wraith creatures have an extremely high no-drop chance (75/104) such that even at players 8, they still have a (2/31) chance of not dropping anything. That's one reason I don't like wraiths much ... getting them to drop *anything* is tough but when they do drop, it *can* be a good rune.

I just noticed something, on player 1, the apparation minions in tal's tomb has a pretty high ranking for zod, on player 8 some other monster exceed it. But, the chance of apparation minions's drop chance for zod does not change from player 1. Am I seeing things here, or did use the calculator wrong. :scratch:

Notice the few in the top spot are normal monsters rather than minion and uniques/minion, and has twice the chance to drop than apparation minions in tal's tomb.

I don't see minions in the list you posted above. Minions are listed in orange and should look like above i.e minion_name (boss_name). I'm also using an old version here at work and will check against the latest version I have at home.

Hmm, they appeared orange on my screen, but when I choose the copy option that's wha tit gave me. I'll get a screen shot up in a min or so.
