so i will just be blunt and not cut around the bush.

i downloaded the game, played happily till lvl 60, then decided i had to start playing online, cuz we all know it's dead boring otherwise. so i tried looking for ways to connect without buying the game and i found this bngateway editor, i tried using it, it seemed to work, it let me create an account. but then it didn't work, not that i was surprised by that.
but today i bought the expansion just for the CD key. but when i press on battle net, it automatically tries to login with that rubbish account i made, and it says there is a problem, and i'm sure it's because it's trying to login with a bad account. i tried looking at blizzard support for help, but no go.
so i'm desperately trying to find a way to let me connect with a new account. seems like a pretty simple thing to wish for. (so you'd think )
anyways if someone could please help me with this, i'd be deeply grateful

If I'm reading this correctly, you tried to cheat and get on, but were unsuccessful. Then you bought one CD key, and were unsuccessful again. Do you have both a valid game key and expansion key?

i have a valid lod CD key i just bought today. i didnt think a valid diablo 2 key was necessary. and yes you read it correctly. i tried to cheat. btw thx for the quick response.

and i didnt mention it, but obviously i did reinstall the game
this is the error shown
"in using a modem you may need to connect to your internet service provider before connecting to batle.net"

We don't offer help with solving problems that arise from the use of cheats. You're on your own there.

If you bought a valid key (from Blizzard, I assume) then you wer. need to uninstall the whole thing and start over.

hey, i'm not the bad guy. i've bought the game afew times. i just lost it twice. so this is the 3rd time i'm buying the game. it's not exactly cheating. it's trying to get out of paying alittle money, so it's being cheap lol. but anyways, i don't think reinstalling will help

omgod! lol, i wasnt trying to cheat or hack, i was just trying to use battlenet without buying the game.

let me rephrase the question. the battlenet automatically tries to log in with the default battlnet account, is there any way to change this?

It's a violation of Blizzard's TOS and EULA.

Like I said earlier, go buy the retail version, problem solved.

If you buy something and then you lose the proof of ownership, you cannot expect that Blizzard believes in mere words. If you buy a train ticket and then lose it, the conductor will not let you get away with any explanation. He will insist on a valid ticket or throw you out.

Whatever, that's not the point. If you are using a legitimate game key, you can connect to bnet. There are a few things to consider, however.

1. You need valid game keys for the core game as well, not just for the expansion.

2. If you bought a used key, it might be one which has been sold several times, so somebody else is currently using it, or it's banned from bnet, e.g. because the previous owner cheated with it. NEVER BUY USED KEYS! Buy them from Blizzard or from a shop which sells original, boxed sets which haven't been opened before. It's OK to mooch them from friends who aren't using them anymore, however.

3. To get rid of the wrong server IPs, you will have to clean up the registry (in addition to uninstalling the faulty game before). The Blizzard website explains what to do in that case. See there for details.

You need to uninstall the old hacked installation completely.

This thread partially represents why PC gaming has been relegated to console ports and MMOs in recent years.
