Help with shields/runewords

Hi,

I recently started after 5 years or so but I never ever made a runeword in Diablo yet. I am confused as to which items to socket and which runeword to pick.

I am playing a lightning javelin amazon. Due to the graces of some good people both on here and in game, I have a good weapon and helmet. But I need to work on my other gear.

I read a guide and it said to use a runeword for shield or a unique shield.

So my choices are:

Rhyme
Spirit
Moser's Blessed Circle
The Ward
Tiamat's Rebuke

I was wondering which would be best considering I want resistances mainly since I want to do nightmare mode. I don't have much in means of trading except for a unique weapon but which would be good to use and easily get?

Also when you are socketing runes in an item, do you socket in any regular item or do you try to find better stuff to socket in?

Thank you.

Re: Help with shields/runewords

I'd go for spirit shield, but might be difficult to get because it can only be made in a white monarch shield (since you arent a paladin) which can be tough to get to drop in nightmare but I am pretty sure its possible (cows, chaos sanct., worldstone etc..(i think)) . Rhyme is ok cause it has MF and is a lot easier to make.

here is a good place to find runewords

Also, any WHITE monarch will get 4 sockets in any of your socket quests. for a 2 socket shield for rhyme, I would find or buy one, it should not be too difficult to find DO NOT waste a socket quest making rhyme.

NM countess should get you any of the runes you need for spirit or rhyme.

Re: Help with shields/runewords

I know it can be tough for an Amazon to get resists... but if I was making a Lightning Javazon I would want max block as well.

From those shields you mentioned, the most attractive to me is that Moser's. Look up the upgrade recipe for it from Arreat Summit, which will turn it into an Elite shield and give you slightly better blocking %. Then socket 2 Perfect Diamonds in it, and viola!! You now have a source of decent resists, and won't have to spend so much in Dexterity which will leave more points to go into Vitality.

Even if you can't afford to upgrade the Moser's, it is still a decent shield by itself. Another runner up is Whistan's, but it doesn't help at all in the resists dept.

I like the recommendation by Bad Ash of the Spirit Shield, but I would suggest putting it on switch with Spirit Sword so you can pre-buff things like Valkyrie.
