Help with PvP Orber

Posted on Sorc Forum as well...

Hey all...

If there's a more up-to-date PvP Orb sorc guide that'd be really helpful if someone pointed it out...

Planning on making a pvp orb sorc but I need a lot of help before I get started...

First gear:
Helm: Nightwings
Amulet: +3 Cold or rare +2 w/ FCR ?
Armor: CoH Archon or Um'd Vipermagi?
Weapon: Fathom
Shield: 35 FCR "Spirit" Monarch or Lidless?
Boots: Sandstorm Treks
Gloves: Frosties or Magefist?
Belt: Arachs
Rings: SoJ x2 or SoJ + Fcr ?

I'm not too educated on breakpoints so... kinda need help there...

For shield.. I WANT to go Spirit Monarch but Monarchs need 156 Str Req and I'm not sure if it's a bright idea to put so much into Str....
Otherwise I'd have to go Lidless or something?

For Armor.. I was under the impression Upped ( or non upped ) Um'd Vipermagi would be best choice but my friend told me to go CoH... Not sure which is best....

Also stat allocation is sort of a problem... I read somewhere that I should go base vita and pump energy and use ES... Sounds kind of strange to me so if someone could enlighten me on that subject that'd be nice...

And then skill points... With Frozen Orb, Ice Bolt, and Cold Mastery maxed, I'll be having a lot of leftover skill points. Should these go into ES n Telekinesis? Or another skill, such as TS ?

Then... just one last question.. how much FHR should I get? I myself have a BvC barb and use the strategy of leap-tele-ww...
Somtimes by the time I tele to them they're already gone... maybe I'm just slow? But not to get off-topic..

Meh... didn't even go into the issue of possibly getting max block...

Any help here would be much appreciated thanks!

If there are any good PvP Orbers on US West Ladder that'd like to show me the ropes that'd be awesome.. My acct is *blehzor

I play East, so i can't help you ingame, but here:

There's prolly 4 variants on orb sorcis (beyond from the skills), in terms of gear + stats.
Vita/block orb
Vita/es orb
Nrg/es orb - facetpak'd
Nrg/es orb - manatank

So, depending on what you'd want, gear would be determined from there, i'd think. I went energy/es with facets on mine. It's rather glasscannon atm, but hits 1.7k orb. Energy/es manatank would be a much more solid build in terms of being able to tank with your es + manapool, and while orb will probably be lower (in range of 1.45k to 1.6k?), It wont be lacking in resists.

Block/ES i wouldnt really recommend. While block does protect your ***, the ideal shield for ES sorci is spirit monarch, and they have crap for shieldblock%, which means a ****load of dexterity required = wayso less life/mana etc. ES also disregards block, DR, and resists. So it'd only be for when after ES crashes.

You need to hit 105 fcr minimum, so build your gear accordingly.

If vita/block, you'll prolly want DR - 15res/-15req SS'd be ideal (vs melee) Sanctuary tower vs caster, if low on res. Or +15/-15 AToD. Cheaper alternatives.. uhm.. Maybe Whitstans guard or upped Visceratuant if you're really hurting.

Nightwings. Arach. 15/7 upped viper.

Weaponwise, If facets, doom waraxe is kinda sexy :p
-60 cres +2 skills. It lacks fcr though, and you'll hafta make this up elsewheres. Or you could just keep it stashed vs non-casters, and use Fathom.

If doom + atod, fcr = 50 atm, magefists to 70, 3/10 ammy to 80 or 2/20 ammy to 90. An alternative to a 3/10, or 2/20 ammy is using a 2/10 sorc safety ammy with +%block, altho the odds of crafting one are so low =/
If doom, you'll need 2x fcr rings to hit the 105 bp, so fathom would generally be better, as it'll leave your ring slots open for 2x sojs/bks.

Alternative to nwings is a 3/20/2 os cold tiara. 10/10 it, or 40 fhr shael'd, or 30 res, 14 fhr jeweled. Means you can keep your bks/sojs and not use fcr rings with Doom.

The main downside to block/vita orb Is you'll have so many extra skill points left over after orb's maxed. It'd prolly be only a useful build for mld.

----

energy es orb - base vita. Only if you can afford 30+ life cold gcs, and 20/x life/manas. or Decrep scs alternatively. You basically get your life from the charms, and use the rest to increase str or mana.

There's 2 main variants to this - I went with spirit, 20/20 jeweler of whale, fathom, nightwings, 3/10 cold ammy, arach, 2 soj, trang gloves, treks. It's low on res, - treachery prebuff fixes, but it's rather annoying after each death and shouldnt be relied upon.

Fathom, nightwings, arach, 2 soj, frosties, 20/5 +3 es ormus, spirit, +2/10 ammy, treks - you lose a bit of damage, but mana pool is higher as is ES.

Fathom nightwings, arach, 2 sojs, frosties, Viper, spirit, 2/10 ammy, treks - essentially the same thing, but with less cold damage (no 20/5 ormus) and 50% more resists.

Fathom nightwings, arach, 1 soj + 1 fcr ring, frosties, coh, spirit, 2/20 ammy, treks. Less mana, more resist, Damage is the same as viper/2 soj switch. Coh route also makes it easier to hit the str reqs on Spirit. If its that much a concern, eth spirits are 146 str req. FCR ring slot also packs mass +mana, life, str, resists potentially. The alternative to this is using trangs/mages instead of frosties and keeping your dual sojs. Its less mana, but slightly more damage. Also negates need for 2/20 ammy - 2/10 is sufficient.

Glasscannon es/orb... Fathom, nightwings, enigma mage/lightplate, 2 sojs, spirit, [trang/mages+2/10 ammy] or [frosties, 1soj, 1fcr ring + 2/20 ammy], treks, or tri res/fhr boots. I generally list treks, because of high psn res, fhr, and str/vita. All are useful for es sorcis... -psn duration on your amulet helps much too. This build.. eh, hits 95 es, but your resists are so crappy =/.
Lets you have a high mana pool though.

Skill wise, TS isnt really worth it. 20icebolt, 20orb, 20 cmastery, 20 kinesis, rest into ES (you want.. lvl 40 es after gear - 95 sorb iirc), if you have leftovers, plugem into warmth.

FhR, with treks and spirit you'll be at 75 fhr. 1 cold gc, and 1 5fhr/17 mana sc or a 15/7 in your viper (if u go that route) will land you past the 86fhr bp - which is sufficient. While some ppl like 146 fhr, I find you need to sacrifice too much in terms of life and socket options in order to hit it.

Wow... such an in-depth reply  .. Thank you...

Hmm.. from the choices you listed.. I'd like to go Energy/ES orb.. but meh... I'll need 30+ Cold Lifers? I was on a ~40 High Rune budget for this char and I thought I'd be having lotsa leftovers.... Lol my whole budget is enough to buy 1, maybe 2x 30+ Cold Lifers...

So I guess I'm going to making a similar one to your Glasscannon, Xenon ;O...

So gear would be:
Fathom
Nightwings
Enigma Light plate
Spirit Monarch
Frosties
1x SoJ
1x FCR Ring
2/20 Amulet
Arachs
Trekkies

....1x Cold GC w/ 12 FHR
1x 5 FHR Sc

Then obviously Cold GCs (Hopefully lifers), Anni, Torch, etc

Skill allocation would something like:
20 Orb
20 CM
20 Ice Bold
20 Telekinesis
Rest into ES

I know putting 1 pt into Warmth is a no-brainer.. but is it a must to put 1 pt into Frozen Armor? Meh.. my noobness..

If there's anything missing/ out-of-whack.. please let me know!
Thanks again...

If you cant afford a full set of 30+ lifers right away, dont bother getting plain colds. Just get plain 20s or 20/manas to fill the space, as the immediate life boost (esp with base vita) will be more useful than ~30-50 orb damage increase per gc, until you can afford the lifers.

Frozen armor / shiver armor arent really useful - Chilling armor is.
It deflects enemy missiles - and shoots out that lil cold bolt. The bolts really kinda.. useless :x, but the damage prevented is definitely worth the points.

I used iceblast (1pt and 1pt) and blizzard on my orb sorci too. IB for closerange against bowas, or generally fragile chars to send into fhr/dodge lock. Blizz for long range sniping / nL, if you dont want to nL/tele with orb.

You can get the cold armors from a prebuffing wand, which will save you that one point, *if* you're really keen on getting it.

@Xenon[KoA] nice write up man.

I just finished a PvP orber, I wish i would of known sooner, I just got done selling most of her stuff. If you're interested I still have likr 8x cold gcs, 20/13 s torch, and a P ormus (20%/-5%/20%fcr/+3 ES) ft.

My gear was:
P NW /w 5/5
P ormus /w 5/5 (20%/-5%/20%fcr/+3 ES)
Perm Fletch
P Fathom /w 5/5 35/39 resist
Frosties
2x sojs
Anarchid
+15 str Treks
35% Spirit
anni, torch, gcs.

Now im my experience with just fletch, treks, good anni, and torch you can get up past a 100+ without putting any strength in. I only ended up putting a few into str, if you can find some perm spurs then you would be set. I didnt end up putting any into vit and still had enough so i was left over after loosing all my man. I hit 1.7K and had 8fcr bp, and decent resists.

I really suggest going with the frosties and 2x sojs for the awesome mana. I mean how can you say no to 90% mana? Since your es. And you can still get the bp. The +3 es ormus was awesome too, because they don't make a orb ormus and there is no point giving points to any snyergies.

Before you build this char just be warned that most pubbies will be able to absorb your damage easy, this pissed me off enough to just sell my orber.

Best of luck to you, if you need to contact me my account is FcRx (US East non-ladder softcore)

Yeah I was thinking of using Snowclash for prebuff then switching back to Arachs...

I play ladder where there are (could be good or bad thing) there are less dupes.. I don't even know what fletches are =\...

They're on ladder too; either way we're not allowed trading em here -_-

Yeah, sorb's annoying, but I dont complain b/c thats one of the things that's sort've a given when you make an elemental damage char. the Doom/facet route would give them a little bit of a harder time sorbing, altho you'd quickly become caster fodder.
