Assuming you have setup a home network:

On comp A start Diablo, choose "other multiplayer" -> "TCP/IP game" -> "Host game". (you'll see your IP at the top)

On comp B start Diablo, choose "other multiplayer" -> "TCP/IP game" -> "Join game" -> Typ comp A's IP address.

Make sure you don't have any firewalls running when setting up that game, or you have to configure them to be able to host games.

    Regarding versions: 1.10 is enough.

In short: A firewall to protect your computer from intruders. Windows XP comes with a built-in firewall. If you have this enabled you will have to allow computer B to connect to computer A on certain port numbers.

Others are from third parties like Norton, black ice etc.
