Help with Cold sorc :(

Can someone direct me to a MF guide for a FO/Chain Lightning sorc?

I just started about a week ago but my gear isn't all that terrible. I am lvl 81 with around 1k hp and +7 to all skills.

I am wearing:
Shako with ptopaz
Silks of victor
Occy
Lidless
Goldwrap
10fcr rings with other bonuses
+1sorc skill ammy
Waterwalk
Magefist

Basically my problem is that I die EXTREMELY fast in any act in hell. Should I ditch occy for wizspike w/um? I should have a spirit monarch soon but should I use a Rhyme instead for more resist? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Depending on your current fcr switch a ring or both to two resist rings also the ammy. I've found maxed resists make a huge difference in Hell and Even if you sacrifice killing speed.

Although I like the rhyme shield as a switch for cheap but reasonable MF, Spirit seems better in so many ways (+skills, faster cast rate, faster hit recovery, better cold/light/poison resists at the cost of no fire) that I would hold out for one of them really. One thing that might help you out is to switch from your Silks to any armour with the 'Smoke' runeword (nef+lum). The most important stats from it are:

+280 defence against missiles
+50 all resists
20% faster hit recovery

Which are all quite handy for increasing your survivability and they certainly beat out the +1 skills you're currently getting from the Silks in my eyes. I also like a 'starting out' ring combination of dwarf star + raven frost since they combine together quite nicely and the cold/fire absorb is particularly useful when facing Mephisto's frozen orb and the various skeleton archer packs you encounter. I guess it's down to whether you consider them to be worth the loss of 20fcr.
