Help my light sorc doing Nihl Runs
Hey there, since I started playing since a 5+year hiatus (first time playing LoD , been more of a Starcraft guy), I've been following the guides that are on this forum for all my builds (Hammerdin, and this light sorc). I'm hoping the knowledge on this forums could help my runs, as there's significant areas to improve on I'm sure.
Since reading how fast Nihl runs could be done, and seeing how I quickly got bored with doing Countess runs for Tkeys, and how Dkeys are much more valuable, I traded for a Nature's Peace, and boom, fully geared for Nihl too.
Stat pts (50 pts saved up)
These are soft pts, so after gear, thus the strange numbers (got gear after I started sorceress, so these are not optimal)
Strength 75 (139)
Dexterity 25 (64)
Vitality 265 (319)
Energy 100 (159)
Skill pts (12 pts saved up)
20 CB
20 Lightning
20 CL
20 Lightning Mastery
1 TK
1 Teleport
1 Static Field
1 Nova
1 T-storm
1 Warmth
With gear, that's level 33 CB/Lightning/CL/Mastery, and I do 5-15k with Lightning and 5-7k with CL (btw, is it 5 to 15k damage, or 5k to 15k damage?)
Gear (I've had some wealthy friends donate to my cause, I've been very grateful)
Helm - Shako
Armor - Vipermagi (I have a CL Ormus Robe on a mule, I saw it was doing less damage than Vipermagi, so I stuck with Vipermagi, don't now if the other attributes would be more beneficial for running Nihl though)
Weapon - Eschuta's (+2 skills)
Armor - The Ward (need it for the res, barely have max res in Hell)
Belt - Arachnid's Mesh
Gloves - Magefist
Boots - Sandstorm Trek
Amulet - Mara's
Rings - SoJ, Nature's Peace
Anni, and a Sorc torch, other charms are just some +res I've managed to find.
I have a Holy Freeze merc with Insight, but it seemed he was doing more harm then good, so I leave him behind. If I stumble myself across some runes, I'd definitely make a Lawbringer, but assume that's not happening.
With the gear, I feel I should have more success than the current ~50% I've had. Granted I've done around 40 runs since getting the Nature's Peace (so much easier, would make a Blizzard sorc if I didn't have one). The 50% fail rate occurs when I see a bunch of Tomb Vipers around Nihl, Nihl's lightning immune, or there just happens to be an extra large swarm of monsters around Nihl.
My strategy thus far has been to use Shiver armor (also have Frozen armor, but Shiver is better right?) on a weapon switch, then hit the Halls of Pain tp, and teleporting to Nihl from there. At first I was teleporting straight to the back of the room, but I kept getting surrounded, so then I teleported right before his room, and just went nuts on the CL. Once it started clearing up, and assuming there aren't any Tomb Vipers, I'd switch to Lightning and finish Nihl. These are my success stories, all the other scenarios I pretty much die or abort the run.
Granted each run takes a minute tops, an aborted run isn't too big of a deal, but I'd like to up my Nihl kills to 60 or 70% if possible.
One of the options I've been flipflopping on is getting Frozen Orb to deal with lightning immunes, but that would require 5 pre-req pts, and probably split the remaining 7 between FO and Cold Mastery. With gear, that would give me around Lv. 15 FO and Mastery. I'm open to any suggestions though, I don't see myself doing more Baal runs, so the 12 pts would be all I'd get in the near future.
