help me w/ my stat

alrite... I've already been told that pumping hard pts on str and dex beyond 100 is not a wise move because the stats could be spent on vitality instead.

however, playing untwinked sp, I have a few questions:

1) w/o str and dex beyond 100, how can I equip w/ elite items?

ok I know you'll tell me next that I will get them from charms/rings/amulets... but you can't always expect to have ammy/rings/charms that give good str/dex together with resist... I mean, they exist, but the case to get a good one during untwinked gameplay isn't always that high...

2) which leads to my 2nd question... I dun get rushed... I always hack n slash monster to raise myself lvl by lvl instead of start allocating my stats and skill pts at lvl80 or sth. thru out the gameplay, how should I allocate my stats during my gameplay?

ok, now I sound like a noob. I'd been playing for 9yrs and w/o enigma/raven frost/other good stuff, I always believe that I have to pump hard pts in stat to meet my item requirement.

there isn't a guide on this topic... I think... can someone pls kindly walk me thru so that I dun mess up another character after my 9th yr of gameplay?

Anyway, as mentioned: it does pay off to do some consecutive Baalruns on Normal or Nightmare just to get your hands on some decent items. Especially a Raven would make the difference in the world.

no actually my question was on fury wolf vs zealot but then I was told about my mistake on stat allocation... which kinda made me wonder whether my character build type for all these yrs are correct or not...

I could be doing like 1,000 runs on Baal runs and still not get a raven frost...

I just wanna get some general tips on how I should allocate my stats thru out my gameplay

NitecryXI, I don't think there's anything wrong with the way you're playing. CC is right that it would certainly help and pay off to run lower-leveled bosses a bit, but you don't have to to get through the game.

As you're going through the game, if you need some extra points in strength or dex in order to equip a piece of gear, just put 'em in. You won't cripple your character severely in the long run or anything. On every character I've ever made, I've left about 75-80 unspent stat points, and they can all make it through the game okay. Really, the only other feasible thing to do that I can think of is look for blue rings or amulets with high strength or dex to wear. Those are fairly common.

I guess my point is... don't sweat it. If you end up having to take 50-60 stat points and put them into strength or dex, you can still have a good character when it's all said and done.

but my dilemma is... I often consciously look for resist than str/dex in my equipment...

and as someone has suggested to me... try to keep 100 as limit of str and often low dex... tat is what makes me wonder how I can wear better gears...

I know it sounds kinda odd to have like 150 or even more str to ppl who usually get rushed and start truly playing at lvl80... but to me it just feels odd not hav enuff strength to wear equipment just because I need to reserve them for vitality

That's because limiting your str and dex to 100 as some kind of magic number is flat out wrong (that person doesn't know what they're talking about). You should spend as much str/dex as you need to wear your gear. If you already know what your end gear will be, then you can plan it efficiently, but you don't, so spend what you have to.

You may also have to spend some points in dex to get AR, but try to get your AR from gear first. Of course this is hard to do untwinked.

That was me It's not flat out wrong (it's what my general way for untwinked play is), Nitecry just forgot to mention, that I advised him to have 100STR AND 50-100 unspent stat points. Of course if he got good weapon he should spend those unspent points....

But I think it would be better if he doesn't ask so much questions (and make so many threads about the same thing) and actually play the game and learn from his own mistakes.

sry... its my bad that I forgot to mention about the "reserve pts" that Hrus had mentioned... sry if this caused confusion =( and yes I understand that it isn't a fixed magic number... just a general preference

and apologize again... I didn't just "theorize" what I've talked about and I did play the game for 8yrs or so to learn my mistakes... right after seeing replies from the thread, I immediately did baal runs hoping for good drops... it didn't happen... I just got all crap drops... no rare items, just magic exceptional items at most...

it does get frustrating when u take a few wks or so to get a zealot to Hell only to discover that u get pwned by a zombie... makes me kinda wonder what I'd been doing wrong in 8 yrs that causes such misery... (afterwards I figured that perhaps lvl63 is still kinda low to even try blood moor in Hell)

but yeah thx again I'll stick to the same thread...

Yup, that makes the difference. Also, it was negligent of me to not point out that I usually leave 50+ points unspent while untwinked. I guess 100 is a general minimum for a physical damage build, since most/all elite weapons need 100+ str.

play the game and learn from his own mistakes.

Character Level is a big factor in "chance to hit," so you really should be level 75 before starting hell (it might be 71, I can't remember).

thx for all ur kind help...

just to share a bit... through out these 8 yrs of gameplay, I always spend all my stat pts whenever I have them... I've never thought about saving cuz I didnt know what's the pt of it... I always try to put more pts to dex till 200 then start allocating more pts in vitality... which is kinda dumb cuz I already have max block with 200 dex when I'm like lvl 70 or sth... or put 200 pts in strength expecting that I will eventually get a colossus voulge

thx to this forum (I didn't join till a mth ago) now I know I should be more stingy w/ my pts... i.e. dun spent them on str until I get a better weapon...

yeah I know it sounds kinda funny but I actually didn't figure this simple concept out till now

lvl 63 and going on to hell?

have you used the "/players 8" command in the chat?

it significantly increases all exp and drops you get from killing monsters (set it back to /players1 before you enter the room where baal is, though, as he takes too long to kill with the increased hit points of /players8)

actually can I use that command in SP? also I play on Mac version... it works as well, right?

yes, you should be able to do that... the players command is a huge help, as you gain levels fast in the easy early game and then you're fitted with much more drops and levels for the tougher late game, when it becomes too tough, simply lower the player setting, works like a charm

often: p8 all the way through normal and NM, then p1 for hell


actually, this command is ONLY available in single player. online, you would need to make a game with 8 actual players in it... much more tedious
