Help- Legal issues with using game graphics

I wanted to sell posters of a few games, such as diablo1, diablo2, cod4, mw2, and more. I was going to sell posters which had graphics taken from the game, like the barbarian from diablo2, the guns from cod4. The pics would be actual screen shots from the game.

    Will i get sued?

Any way i can get around it ? maybe get permission or give them a cut of the sales?

i doubt i will make more then a few hundred bucks a month.

Not sure who would be wanting to pay for posters using in-game graphics in the first place. The legal side really makes it a bad idea.

If you were doing it for free, I doubt they'd sue you. But making money off their images - yes. It's the difference between downloading music and movies, and the jerks make money selling bootlegged copies.

The RIAA has sued people who didn't profit from it. Though, I'd bet that Blizzard isn't as on edge as the RIAA is.

The RIAA would be even more profitable if they'd adapt their aging business model.

Blizzard on the other hand I would say is a lot more on top of the technology.

But yes, profit would be the reason they'd sue you if they bothered to.

So this place is not making money - I see screen shots here?

    You know the deal =P

As far as I can tell, I wouldn't exactly consider this site highly profitable (just consider the speed). I'd say the Ads pay for the bandwidth, hardware and maintenance - effectively this site is a free promotional tool for an aging game and a resource in getting player perspectives.

If they were to start offering d2 merchandise - that would be an issue.

    Yes.

Better ask for permission. In this case it's probably not about the money, but a matter of principles. Maybe they just want to be asked in advance, but they might as well say no.

They will, or they might slip under the radar. Do you want to risk your life savings on that gamble?

Without proper permission, the legal ramifications outweigh the profit. That's basically what it comes down to.

It would be physically impossible for Blizzard to be that on edge. RIAA would sue you because you might, at some point in the distant future, consider the possibility that you could download music without paying for it.

In fact, I read an article a few days ago that mentioned either RIAA or MPAA (don't remember which) filing suit against hundreds of John/Jane Does for downloading a certain song/movie. The evidence to support it was the IP addresses of all these unknown people, which they didn't have because the movie/song hadn't been released yet and there were no bootleg copies in existence.
