Help...Interest...Fading...

Well, having a recent urge for playing EQ (even though I no longer have it installed or have an account) so I cant really play it. But with wanting to play that, the interest in D2 is fading, and I just got back! Doctor, is there something wrong with me? :p

I dont know if anyone around here can help me, but I figured the SPF might know some ways to rekindle this all-too-soon dying flame. Without this, all I have is forum browsing and school work! Worse than the depth's of Diablo's fiery hells. The schoolwork that is.

Maybe it is just a stomach full of pop and chicken strips and the impending list of chores that brings this on, or the wanting to play EQ, or something else that is going to blow over, but I have that feeling that I dont want to play, but I dont want to not play...if you know what I mean.

I figured I just had to get this out. I also wanted to make some kind of conversation. :p

Well, many people take a break from playing D2 and then come back again. Just look at all the people who've made a 'goodbye' thread and then an 'uh, I'm back' thread... :)

I generally don't play D2 in vast quantities (most of the past week, when not doing work of course, I've been playing Sacred instead. Previously it was NWN, and soon I expect I'll throw FFX-2 in once I get it...), so it's not a matter of losing interest, it's just going away and coming back again later.

There are a few D2-based therapy programs I can suggest:

- Play a horribly overpowered character. Like say a Hammerdin. Killing stuff can be theraputic.
- Play a horribly underpowered character, or an odd build that can still do well.

Or just skip D2 for a week or so, do something else (Minesweeper!), and then come back see how you feel.

When my interest fades I do one of two things. Either:

a) Play another game for a while. After a few weeks I miss DII and come back. Or

b) Join a tournament. Get some external goals along with the regular fun of the game.

Just go play something else for a while but keep your D2 installed. Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Otherwise, you could always change your style of play to keeps things fresh. Try hardcore or some super char or something.

I'm going to play echo to the wise posters above me and suggest that you try a diff build. What kind of builds have you played so far? Try some of the more esoteric ones (furysin, ranger, hunter, wolfbarb, etc.) Maybe it'll re-spark the love between you and D2 :)

P.S. Taking a break isn't that bad a thing either. A breath of fresh air never hurt anyone.

Hmmm, MP games, eh? I've been hesitant to jump into them since i don't know the etiquette for joining one (have been an SP player since D2 day 1, no b.net or anything). Do you just find an appropriate one from the MP thread and jump in?

Thanks for all of the suggestions people. I spent tonight looking for some free MMORPG's (I am cheap :D) and I played some Runescape, now that it is 3D (although not good looking :p). Also, if I can get subscribed to PUzzle Pirates, I can play that.

Right now, build wise, I have my Frost Zealot, Mageazon, Frenzy Barb, and Hunter druid (all untwinked) and then my twinked Maul sin. So, as you can see, some are different (especially the sin) but y'know, I havent been into it much.

I am sure that if I load up D2 with my maul sin, smack on some Evanescence, and swing away, I can have a jolly old time. It isn't like I have much else to play.

And I agree with D2Addict. That is one of the reasons I loved B.net. I prefer human interaction over playing alone anyday. Keeping your own drops is good and all, but if you are playing with other civil players, it should be no problem. It also makes things a bit easier.

The biggest problem is overplaying. I play mostly on a Friday night, which usually goes from 7pm to 4am...then I play some over the weekend and am lucky to get in about 4 hours during the week.

You could always take a break. Nothing negative ever came from taking a little break from D2... :p

LIES!!! :D

On a more serious note, one way to get the ol' DII flame burning again is to play HC. I did that and now I can stand playing SC again, aswell as HC of course.

Play a game with a different style and pace. For me it is Icewind Dale 2. Then i get frustrated with how damn slow it is and how much i suck at 3E, then i come back to D2.

yup, playing another game is the definite answer. i've alwasy has d2 installed in my pc. but i play other games, sometimes i forget all about d2. then when the urge kicks in, i just insert the LoD disk and ...... and yes, games with different pace is a very good idea. games with the same pace games tends to get outshined by d2's superiority

Playing a different game is a good answer to your D2 blues.

However, if you want to still play D2 and not be bored make a challenge or take up someone elses challege in the game. My current challange is single tree builds the passive barb, defensive paly, and curse necro look like they will be my hardest ones to build.

Yeah just jump in. It doesn't take long to pick up what you need to know. I host a lot of 1.09 MP games.

Call of Duty is an excellent game that is tough and completely different from D2.

Well, after my Maul sin, I have interest again. I would rather be playing Everquest, but we dont always get what we want :p

I play when I can, and I dont sob when I cant. It is getting more of a leisure thing I guess. I have some other stuff to play too. Too bad my comp is too crappy for Call of Duty :p. It is atleast 4 years old, and I am in desperate need of an upgrade.

Thanks for all of the suggestions people.

i played EQ for the first year of its releasse and it was a lot of fun (some people even got that godly banded armor in short order)

but i logged in not tooooooooooooo long ago and it sucks lol, within 3 hours in free items i had stuff we couldn't have dreamed of existing for even the top level players back then, everything is easy to kill and most people talk in so much leet i don't even know what they are saying. Its really not fun to go back for, for long. never look back!
