Help: Game Crash when Completing & Switching Acts!

Alright, so here's the problem. Recently, with every character that I make, when completing an act and then switching to the next act, an error message pops up. I'm sure some of you have seen this error message with D2 before. It's the "Unhandled Exception" message.

So every time I complete an Act with a character, this message pops up and crashes my game, making me restart the game. Anyone have any idea what to do about this, short of reinstalling the game? Or has anyone experienced this before?

Btw, no third-party programs are used.

I think you have 3 options:

-reinstall video card drivers (or try a different version)
-reinstall d2
-reinstall windows

the problem with these things is that nobody ever has a clue what's causing it so it is trial and error. good luck !

There's something wrong with your cinematics or your CD. No need to reinstall windows or video drivers.

I was thinking of the cinematics being the problem too. When I go to the 'Cinematics' button in the main menu in D2, it shows all of them, but doesn't do anything when I click on them.

I'm guessing that all the cinematics are stored in the "d2video.mpq" file. Mine is 421mb. Can anyone check with theirs and let me know how big it is? I'm going to try to get an mpq extractor and see if the videos are in there.

My friend had the same problem, and it was because he switched to Direct3D rendering mode. Try switching back to DirectDraw.

This happened to me once when I used the '-ns' (-nosound) command line switch. If you're using that, try removing it and see if it works.

Otherwise you'd need to re-copy your video files from the CDs and hope that works (they are in d2video.mpq and d2xvideo.mpq)

Alright, I've checked out the video files in d2video.mpq and they work fine when extracted.

JPD002: I really doubt that's the problem, because I've never used Direct Draw; always Direct3D. But I will try that if nothing else works.

Shade: Hmm, I am using -ns whenever I play. I'll try both your suggestions, thanks.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully this will be resolved soon!

Edit: THANK YOU Shade!! It works now, with ns disabled. So now I have 6 shortcut icons to D2 .
