help for a little amazon

I'm not sure if I should be posting here or in the Amazon forum but here goes nothing...

I am primarily still playing my single player Amazon who is now lvl 21 and frankly I'm having some problems with killing bosses especially, but just generally staying alive in some areas is getting pretty difficult. I'm now in Act 2, quest 2-( going after the staff now) and none of my gear is real great ..have a few half decent weapons (I think they're ok anyways...)

I can make a list of what I have if needed..but otherwise..any suggestions for me as to stuff I should be looking out for armor/weapons wise?

what kind of amazon are you? i have a lighning fury amazon and I put a point in jab and that seemed to get me by untill i got to lvl 30. i was using sig set though. if this doesnt help at all, my other suggestion would be to try to buy some javalins or a bow, depending on what you are, that have some life leech.

What type of amazon am I? Good question really..lol. I tend to switch off between bow and trident a lot depending on my mana and what type of situation I find myself in. I use up mana a lot more on bow so if I'm running out of potions I tend to poke them all with the trident till I fill up again.

I have no particular set..I haven't found any set items so far. I am currently wearing: full helm
superior ring mail ( with a rune in it "EL" I think...)
Bitter Claw Heavy Gloves
Hotspur Boots
Soul Lock Sash
rings depend on where I am- different resists and such.

Weapons I'm currently using: Brimstone Flight Composite Bow
Loath Pale Trident

Since I'm a newb- erm..what is a sig set?

Ok, first of all since your playing single player I'd like to direct you to the SPF (Single Player Forum). The people there are really nice and can help you. Second of all, I would like to suggest that you just play as you see fit for your first character, making your own decisions and just having fun playing the game. Without following guides and stuff. Although, I would like to suggest you either pick a bow or a javelin(or trident whatever), and specialize in that skill tree. And it is a very good idea to get a valkyrie when you have the level to(this is a skill). (I am also assuming this is one of your first characters, correct me if Im wrong)

Sig set is Sigon's Complete Steel Set. This is all the Sigons set items. Its a great low level set, but in single player like you are playing would be very difficult to get at this point.

P.S. Dont bother going to the Amazon forum, or at least I wouldn't because you probably wont understand the advice you get there.

Thanks for the advice. I'll head on over to the Single Player forum from now on for such questions, had just posted here cause I checked the Amazon forum and you're right..didn't get a thing..lol.

I've been checking over some of the guides and such but pretty much just doing things the way I like it and it's starting to get a bit better..(I'd write an "Ode to the Shift Key" if I were poetic..just found that one and it's been saving my little rump in quite a few situations)

This is my first character (I have one on the realms but haven't been playing it much- it's lvl 8? or so) so your assumption was correct. I'll just grab whatever gear I can then too since sets will be hard, thanks for letting me know what it is though..I'll hang on to them if I find any.

Off to play again..Valkrie is coming soon and Duriel and I are about to go head to head... (eek!)

Thanks again!!

Make sure you take your finger off shift to drink a potion, otherwise it will go to your mercenary. It's a good way to suffer an untimely death.

Im leveled my zon through the 20s with Sigon's, Angelic ammy+ring, Manald and a short battle or war bow with +13-15 maxmg jewels in it. I used the normal bow attack a lot because of the mana problems a low-level zon often has.

At L33 she switched to Kuko, at L41 to Buriza and at L65 to Faith (the level reqs might not be 100% accurate), exchanging the rest of the equipment as well. Belt: String of Ears. Armor: Duriels's Shell, later Fortitude. Helm: Stealskull, later Andariel's Visage. Boots: Goreriders. Gloves: rare 20%IAS, +2 passive gloves. Amu: Atma's Scarab. Rings: Ravenrost+dual leech ring.

As a single player you probably don't have the runewords mentioned, but these were just meant as examples anyway. The end-gear depends on what resources you have, of course. See the amazon forum for infos about that.

I'm in the same spot as you, except I've made quite a few high level characters on the Realm, so I'm pretty experienced with what I'm doing. I don't have a connection to the internet at my house now, so I just started playing through Single Player, and it just so happens my first character is a Bow Amazon.

Since you're level 21, you're the perfect level for a Zephyr bow.

It's a Runeword, made from fairly common runes. Ort and Eth. Just go and kill the Countess a few times and she should drop them for you. Then, in Act 2, shop for a Composite bow with two sockets from Elzix. [The guy you can gamble from.]

Once you have your bow and Runes, put the Ort Rune in first, and the Eth Rune in second, and you're good to go.

Also, once that's done, or if you already have a nice stash of gold, do some gambling for gloves, boots, and belts. You can get some decent stuff early on by gambling.

Thanks for the replies, I hadn't even thought of runewords in weapons...I have a few runes (eth, el, tir, erm..one other i think) and I'll be visiting the countess soon to see if i can scrape up the other I need.

I'm finding Duriel to be more than a worthy opponent (eek was right...) but I'm now joined up with my hubby on his lvl 21 Necromancer so tonite Duriel shall die! mwahaha! (ok i'll probably die a few times before Duriel does..but it's the end result that counts right?

oh and thanks for the shift/drink tip..I think I've done that a few times already not realizing it..hehe oops... :innocent:

Yeah, in this age of rushing, no one ever thinks of a Runeword that's not BotD or Enigma or something, but there are plenty of cheap helpful ones. Just find yourself that Ort, buy a 2 socket Composite Bow in Act 2 from Elzix, and you'll be rocking your way through Act 2, and probably Act 3 at least with your pretty new Zephyr bow.

As for your mana problem, it's all about knowing when to use your skills. I'm personally going the Multishot route, and it's a real mana hog at my current level. I can get off 4 before I'm out of mana. With a Zephyr Composite Bow, you'll have plenty of speed, so you'll be shooting off arrows fast enough to take most things out from a distance. I only use Multi as a sort of panic button against particuarly large groups, or tough boss packs.

Here's a good trick for when you need to kill a lot of things quickly with a mana expensive skill. In act 2, you should see plenty of regular mana potions dropping, [as opposed to minor or light mana potions] and these refill your mana bulb by X amount of points over Y seconds. When you use one, even if it fills up your bulb all the way, it's still working in the background until it's time limit runs out, so, if you use your skills while the potion's working, it should be filling up your Mana plenty for continual use of your skills for those few seconds. [I say use normal Mana potions, because while minor and light ones work the same way, they don't work fast enough for this] I keep 2 rows of Healing, and two rows of Mana potions on my belt. It works well, since as a bow weilder, you shouldn't be getting hit too much so you don't need healing potions as often as other character classes might. I use this little trick with great success so far, it turns me into a weapon of mass destruction for a few seconds, and that's usually more than enough.

A quetsion and clarification.

First the clarification. For the red and blue potions, they refill your bulb over time (5 sec i believe) they *will* stop filling your bulb if it gets full (ie solid color throughout) but if you use mana/take damage during this time, it will still fill that.

For example, you are using lvl 7 multishot (which costs 10 mana per use) you have a max mana of 80 and current mana of 20. You drink a mana potion (say it gives you 120 mana, im not sure for zons) if you dont use ms at all it will only put you up to 80 mana, however if you use ms while it is filling your bulb, you could use ms 12 times and still have 20 mana once the potion stops. I hope this explanation is clear :) Clear as mud methinks.

Now for the question. Since my internet is being really shaky, Ive been playing more and more SP, pretty much from scratch. Ive started a hunter (Druid summoner who uses a bow for support) How far in the game is the Zephyr runeword useful? My hunter is presently at the wp in the kurast bazaar. Am i finding better bows than a Zephyr?

I don't know about that. I've had my Mana fill up, and then used a skill, and have it fill back up again if used within the few seconds that the potion is working. I'm pretty sure that just because your mana fills up, the potion is still working for it's duration, so even if it's full and you use a skill, if there's still time left on it's duration, then it will fill your Mana back up. That's been my experience, anyway.

To answer your question, I'm not entirely sure how far into the game a Zephyr is useful for. I haven't played in a couple days, but I know it's been working wonders in Act 2 on the 8 player setting. Better than anything I've been able to find/gamble up to that poijt, anyway. Don't forget, too, that it's cheap to make, and you can remake one in a better bow once you find one. [I use a Composite Bow at the moment for it's speed.]

I know this because i use this trick with Corpse explosion. If i let my bulb fill all the way up, it starts coming down immediatly, where if i use it while its filling it will continue to fill. I also notice this with my barbarian using life potions, that if it fills completely, then i get it, it will immediatly go down, and not fill.
