    Hello people... newbie here

Hi guys, I registered a while ago, but didn't really stay around here due to other commitments in life. Now I'm back, and I've got D2X installed in my system.

I'm a guy from Singapore, 22 years of age. Just want to say hi to you guys out here. I'll probably be sticking around here (for a long time?). :)

*search for some shinguards in the pockets, realize that have none left*

Gomen (sorry). Think you'll have to find a way to protect your own shins, give my last shinguards to that newbie... :(

Opps sorry, I didn't mean any of that. I should've said "people". Hello to you too, Amidala. :)

I'm currently playing my character (amazon) as a TCP/IP game, but I'm solo-ing for now (until I maybe find a few good mates for a private TCP/IP game, which is why I started my character in that mode). Is that still considered SP?

Is there any way for a character created in SP mode, to be "converted" to TCP/IP mode? I hope that wasn't a stupid question.

There are no such modes. The only modes that exist while playing single player or multiplayer over tcp/ip are hardcore and softcore. So any single player char can join multiplayer games as long as they fit the hardcore/softcore category.

EDIT: Welcome and enjoy your stay.

    Welcome to SPF.
You can play single player character and TCP/IP with the same character. No need to start TCP/IP game when playing solo. The only thing you loose when you start the TCP/IP game with your character are maps.
Also check the stickies and download Atma - the muling program.
Stay legit and enjoy the game.

Oh sorry that was *really* a stupid question. I just went to try it out, and realised my mistake. I had all along thought that a character created in SP mode couldn't be used in TCP/IP games, and vice versa.

Although I've been at it ever since D2 was released, I still consider myself a newbie. Lotsa things to learn around here, especially from this community. :D

PS: Don't mind my stupid newbie questions every now and then.

Errm... what would be the best build for a MF character? I know this probably has been asked a thousand times, but I did a search, and it turned out tens of pages of results with thread titles that all didn't sound like it.

Generally you want something not very item dependant, so that rules out most melee builds. The most common options are either a summon/fishymancer, hammerdin or a sorc. FO/meteor, blizz/fireball, pure blizz are all very good MFers in the right area, and all the builds can be done untwinked.
Fishys and hammerdins do better for area MFing (eg: pits), while the sorcs are better at boss running.
I personally like fishys and blizz sorcs, but it depends on what you want, go for your favourite strong build, because MFing takes time, you dont want to do it with a character you hate.

I was looking at the stickies and reading some of the builds that some of the folks around here have come up with. I realised that some of the classic builds are more or less gone. Is there any particular reason, except for the changes that v1.10 has brought about in terms of making the older builds redundant? Builds like the classic bowazon, or the summoner necromancer? (or did I overlook them)

And some of the links are dead already.

I did look at the Strategy Compendium for some builds, but it seems like they're all specialised builds; nothing for the newbies to play around (and still be able to survive) with.

Welcome to the SPF enjoy your stay:)

It's pretty much the new changes. Synergies really turned everything upside down and left a lot of old 1.09 characters behind. But both Bowazons and summon necros are still viable, although Pierce doesn't work with Guided Arrow anymore.

The forums have moved around a bit...

If you get a dead link then just substitute the "http://www.rpgforums.net//" part with "http://forums.diabloii.net"

If you want a really newbie friendly build then a summonmancer or "Fishymancer" is perfect since they are able to get really good gear quite easily and don't need much equipment to survive. Also most builds in 1.10 are very specialised, and more or less have to be in order to stay alive.
