    Hellforge Question

OK i see people saying the Hellforge is the place for runes..apart from the countess...

Once the quest is done, the Hellforge is inactive, right? So does the Smith drop runes?...i've killed him a few times but he hasn't obliged!

Hephasto has been known to drop runes himself on occasion and has a chance to drop some of the higher runes (maybe even up to Zod - I'm not sure). Rather than just running him, people suggest running the whole River of Flame area - the Ghost type creatures in particular have good rune drop chances.

The Hellforge can spit up some very nice runes the first time you complete that mission on each difficulty. After that it doesn't do much for you though . . . People don't do Hellforge runs like they do with the Countess, but that one time you get to do the quest it can be very rewarding indeed. :)

I got an Um from the Chaos Sanctuary. However I don't know if that would be a great place to run. Personally I would stick to The Countess, because she is easy.

Well she is. She doesn't mind how many times you run her. The more the better.

In NM, she can drop up to Ko (r18), but has much better chances of dropping up to Io (r16).

In Hell, RTB is correct. But her chance of dropping up to Ist is quite fabulous.

Also, if you are looking for lower runes like Shael, it's best to do Hell Countess. Hell Countess and NM Countess have the same chance to drop it. So, once you've advanced to Hell, there's no reason to go back to NM Countess.

Her best chance of dropping runes is at Players 1, btw.

I'll have lots more info on rune finding in an upcoming guide I am preparing. Should be done by Monday.

That sample run, 100, from 1.09 was unbelievable, 10 Pul!!!!!

I thought Hell countess was up to Ist...or is that just what is in her special rune drop.

ist is the max rune from her "rune drop," which has a moderately good chance to drop the mid-level runes. as RTB said, she can drop up to Lo, but that has to be as one of her item drops, and in these item drops she has an abysmally miserably horrible excruciatingly low chance to drop anything that good.

for the high runes, your best bet is to run a place that has a good chance to drop runes - ghost-type monsters have a 4X chance to drop runes and can be found in abundance in the river of flame, chaos sanctuary, and WSK. these areas are good because they can drop up to Zod. then you just need to get lucky... very very lucky.

i wouldnt call 0.0000031% chance to drop a lo from hell countess abysmally miserably horrible excruciatingly low. that means about every 35,000th run will drop it on averge. i can do that in a week easy....

Do you mean the monsters with the "Ghostly" prefix or the gloam kind (ugh!)?

its pretty bad compared to Baal's 0.00000488% to drop Zod...

i meant things like gloams, not ghostly monsters... if only the ghostly prefix meant that they threw runes at you! :D

    Actually,

Hell Countess has a .000436% chance to drop Lo at "Players 4-8" and a .000312% chance at "Players 1" per kill.

Hell Baal (2nd or later kill) has a .000036% chance to drop Zod.

All Act 5 Hell "wraith type" ordinary monsters have a 1.389578% chance at "Players 8" to drops runes (Zod on down to El).

While, all Act 5 Hell "non-wraith type" ordinary monsters 0.353090% chance.

The difference is 3.9355 X and it gets smaller at lower player settings...

Since we are on the topis of runes. I was wondering if a Zod has ever been found before by anyone? Not just in 1.10 but in LoD since it first came out. I know that people have "cubed" up to zod but has one actually been found?

Several have been found. In 1.09, I know that both Jaxom (for the old schoolers who remember him) and VvV found one. I know of other cases in 1.10 too.
