Hell Maggot Lair Troubles

I'm using a pure lightning Sorc, lvl 66, and am having trouble in the Maggot Lair in Hell. I'm using a Act 2 Offensive Merc, and my gear consists of.....

Helm: Tal Rasha
Armor: Que-Hegan's Wisdom
Belt: Tal Rasha
Boots: Natalya's Soul
Gloves: Magefist
Rings: SOJ and Raven Frost
Orb: Tal Rasha
Shield: Moser's Blessed Circle socketed with 2 eld's

The Scarab seem to be too much for my merc nd I can't phse them with due to the lightning immune. Any suggestions?

Thanks

just teleport through to the end and then you only have to clear 1 room that is mostly maggots?

other piece of advice is just get some levels.. your merc's resists are low at that level so he's taking a ton from their charged bolts

a) get some levels, you're level 66 taking on lv 83+ creatures

or

b) teleport past them, grab the staff, and leave

I think this is your biggest problem.

Gaining ~10 levels from Baal runs (in Nightmare) will help a little, but, with the gear you've listed, you might even want 3-5 more than that. After the initial ~10 levels from Baal, you might look at a few Hell Countess runs to hopefully get a good rune or two along the way.

<-- that would be my first & foremost path.

But there are a couple of things you can try if you don't particularly feel like gaining a bunch of levels. I'm doubtful either one will work, but maybe if you're persistent enough...

1. The 'Knockback' effect of Telekinesis still works against lightning immune monsters. You won't cause any damage, but it can be an effective tool to help your merc at times... you spam TK, the monster gets stuck in hit recovery, leaving your merc to attack freely. If the monster is "pinned" against a wall (or something) the merc can often make a quick kill... btw, this is an effective tactic for immunes all throughout the game; I use it against nasty bosses often, with just about every sorc I've played.

2. Another possibility is to return briefly to Act2 Normal difficulty, and shop a "white", 2-socket, +3 Firewall staff from Drognan, then make 'Leaf' runeword in it and equip it on weapon-switch. The runes are very cheap, and a level 6 firewall does 281-304 damage per second... not spectacular, but for a such a low-end solution it's as good as you can get.

With enough potions and patience you might have a chance of success at level66.

Some people actually play the game sti :p
no offense to habitual rushers...

and on OT, yeah, levels...i don't hit hell on any of my toons until i'm low to mid 70's and that usually means mid 70's minimum by the time i'm running act2 maggot

When I have to fight in areas like Maggot Lair (which has alot of lightning immunes) I have a Sorc Orb that gives +2 to glacial spike. I hotkeyed on a weapon switch so when I came across mobs of scarabs, I switch to the GS Orb and spam it whilst my merc goes to town. You need to get one of these orbs and set it as your weapon swith.

yes offence.. these tards don't know how to play the game like it should.

good thing that the OP tries to fight through the game.. but as you are quite low for that area maybe you should just teleport to last room and open the box and get the staff :)

Or go back to NM Baal runs for another 11 levels.
