HC Sorceress Meph runner

Well, the ladder season arrived and, as I said I would, I have a level 79 skellymancer up and running in act 1 hell. I have done numerous Pit runs but the going is slow and I believe that a hell Meph runner would be more productive in gaining new items for other characters.
I think that a Sorceress is probably the most often used character for this and I was wondering which build is the most preferable: FO/Static; Blizzard/Fireball?
Which merc, if one is necessary?
I was thinking that I could build a Sorceress and after running the Pit w/ the necro I could bring in the Sorc to run Meph and receive the benefits of first Meph run drops that have been mentioned here before.
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Orb works, and there is no doubt to that, but Ranged attacks can do it safer when you dont have the best gear. With that said really you should be able to aquire the gear to run him in Nm or from Andy.

As for Mercs, if you use the resources of the game you can make your merc live much better than most seem to beleive. i will once again point out the simple 4 socket armor with ORT, THuls, Rals, and since Meph is primarily a cold/light attacker you can focus on that wiht the gear. Also one BIG thing that keeps a merc alinve is SLOW and there are a few items that can take care of this for you and one is Kelpie Snare whichtends to drop alot, and can be had for Gems from most.

Not only does slow keep your merc alive but it also helps you.

IMO the best way to kill Meph safely is either get right up in his mug, ot get as far away as possible, and ORB doesnt allow you to do either and kill him rapidly. Now, if you are good at orb sorcs, keeping them moving and at "max damage range" then this discussion is pointless and maybe you should go orb, but if you are not I suggest you consider the other methods like Meteor, Blizz, FW, FB as they will all do it fine also.

While discussing a weapon like Kelpie Snare, there are a few bonuses to this weapon other than the slow, one is a boost to the mercs life, another is it has prety low damage keeping him from killing things like Dolls while teporting, or even Meph himself since your MF no longer works for him. The damage is enuff however to provide him wiht enuff to get leech if he has a leech item.

There are many ways to run Meph from merc to no merc and many attacks that can work. It is probably best for you to pick a spell set that you are familar with or comfortable with and go.

my suggestion to this thread is:

"the no merc lightning sorc"

teleport on top of him and static, then teleport across the moat

meph will get confused and start moving irradically and not attacking, while you can safely kill him with lightning and even wpn switch with no threat

you could actually substitute any ranged spell for lightning ie meteor or fireball.. lightning is just what i use

what if like 20 guys on this side of the moat waiting to take your sorc as their breakfast? would you stil tele backward?

90% of the time at least one side has no monsters
