HC recruitment

Hey all

I think we've noticed that the HC community is fickle at best. We're the quickest sect to lose population due to death of characters, PvM or PvP. I'm pushing for the softcore community to try their best on HC. The larger community we can manage at the beginning, the more likely we are to hold a larger population. Gotta hook 'em early, like the tobacco industry! If only we had their numbers.... ok enough Dogma. So anyways, I dropped this post into the PvP forum, hoping to challenge some of the SC players to come over this way:

As an old time D2 player, I must admit I can no longer play softcore. Hardcore truly has it all, with only a few minor drawbacks.
I started playing HC in late .09, and haven't gone back to SC. The PvM aspects of it are far more entertaining, as you have your character on the line. The public is a different crowd altogether, you get to skip many of the flame-happy youngin's; though there are still flame-happy 'matured' players as well. But most importantly, as far as PvM goes, you get to prove your character's valor by his very existance: Avoiding death with every second he's played.

The most entertaining aspect of HC, however, is PvP. Nothing gets your heart racing like a loot duel. While the dueling rules are very different, and will certainly take some time to adjust to (There's virtually no such thing as BM), the rush you get while in the heat of battle cannot be matched by any game I've had the privelege to play yet.

There is the drawback of losing your character, and note, this is more likely to happen than not, especially coming from SC. However you will find a whole new meaning to the game. If you haven't played HC yet, make this your first attempt. Bring your f list over and start together. It may be your last chance to start a ladder fresh on HC. This last reset took closer to 2 years, than the 1 year pace it was on before. I urge you all to join the mayhem and excel as Diablo players. See you on HC!

Any help from you long-timers would be greatly appreciated, drop a post in there to reinforce the idea. This thread is also an easy one to end up getting flamed in, or to flame in, I think we should avoid it at all costs :)

Careful what you wish for, the HC community would probably drop down a notch or two if too many of the typical softcore public players switched over. That said, the ones more likely to actually make the switch are more likely the ones who would be more civil.

Aye Matt, that went into my consideration. I'd still rather have a community of retards than no community at all: Especially if that makes for more ears for me. Watching a seasoned SC dueler duel on HC, that's a lesson I like to teach :)

The problems I foresee with trying to bring alot of the SC community to HC is i've seen alot of them give up after there first death, and they don't want to continue. They also are so dependent on there 1337 itamz that they don't have the skills to survive HC for very long.

Also, its harder to trust people who take up HC as a SC temporary vacation, I can't get the thought of someone posing all nice at first then latter tppk'ing me when I let my guard down.

That, and leveling a character to a decent enough level to HC pvp, takes to long, and you could end up playing with someone who will be very cheap while dueling.

I'd rather have no community than one full of idiots asking for free items and rushes, and are dieing on me left and right.

A handful of stereotypes and halftruths in there. I've seen all of that from the devout HC community. No community would make for no multiplayer. Might as well make it Singleplayer at that point, which is hardly the reason I play D2. More players means a larger item pool, and maybe I can finally get ahold of some of the strange items I need for my pvp setups :)

While what I typed may not be true for everyone (I never meant to even imply that), its still applies to alot of people.

Yes, no community would be the same as single player, just basically with lag and torches and anni's, so that wouldn't be to much fun, but you can't easily convert people to play HC unless the are up for the challenge. Sometimes the only reason I play online is for the torches and anni's. It would be easier to play single player at times, and take use of the p/8 feature at will. But, I don't like always playing alone, and in the cesspool that is Bnet, you can find some really nice people would enjoy the game like you do.

But, getting people to play HC is one thing, getting people to play HC PvP is way different. I don't think alot of people like to PvP much in HC, the only time I have really heard of it beside the lame tppk, is people who PK without hacks or scripts by hunting characters down. Or to purposely kill of a character. Not duels really.

SC is for PvP. You can tweak out you character all you want, and don't have to worry about losing all that time and effort you put in to them in a blink of an eye. While it more be more fulfilling to you, I don't think alot of people agree.

I'm sure a handful of people disagree in fact. I'm reminded of this every time I offer a duel and am turned down. But there is a good handful of PvP in HC still. Some of it hacks-laden, but enough to make me want to try another season. PvP is actually the reason I came from SC, the thought of ending their character in a duel was no less than attractive. Just hoping to strike a chord with the hot-stuff SC players out there.
