Hate Key Hunting

Hey all,

I tried searching the forums, but can't seem to find anything related...

I am having trouble getting H keys, not so much the drops, but actually finding "the Summoner" in a timely fassion.

Yes the Arcane WP is great but there are 4 directions to go, and I have found no discernable pattern that will help me from just "being lucky"

it is a bit annoying as I obvoiusly don't use any form of MH, and having some help via pattern or tip would be of great benefit.

has anyone figured anything out to help us tru playas?

thanks!!!

Well there are 4 types of branches (Normal, Portal, Traps and one that reminds me of Escher) and I've once tried to see if there was any relation between the position of those to each other and the position of the summoner but I couldn't find anything. Personally, I don't think there is a pattern.

One thing you can do to speed the runs up is take the little shortcut by teleing from the east to the north branch and from the west to the south branch. It's not always possible though.

hey, eeek, well thats a bummer.

can I ask what you mean by teleing to n from those spots?

how can you tele from one end to another end? are they 1 screen away where the Sorc or any other Tele'er can get to?

where the launch and land point?

thanks!!!

Hey...

interesting enough, I tried this tactic last night in Arcane, and it didn't work as well as it seems.

for whatever reason you can only Tele from certain spots. as others maybe are farther away... its odd.

I didn't do any "tests" but like the portal branch you can tele to say the weird stairs branch or something like that.

but you can't tele to each branch from the next branch... for whatever reason it doesn't let you.

Also for Nihlithak hunting, (i did not figure this out) but was told of this trend, so you don't have to search 4 possible branches. max is 2.

Tele to base of one, if you find

Nothing of significance room (go counter clockwise to next branch = Nihlithak)
Champion Monsters room (go direct across to opposite branch = Nihlthak)
Evil Urn room (go clockwise to next branch = Nithlithak)

there I gave my secret :) only thing is that I hate tomb vipers... so stupid it pisses me off. how do you guys consistently tele/run around when they spawn down there over 50% of the time....

I understand that when you move is when you lose life quickly, but when you are playing so fast it just happens... eh?

Just look signs at walls at middle and go right away to Nihlathak. No need to go wrong branches.

And that bugged viper damage is easy to cancel out, for both merc (little harder) and char.

DH Ama...

what do yu mean look at signs?

is there an actual message that shows which way he is?

also, how do you "cancel out" bugged viper damage? besides standing still.

thanks!

Look those Nihlathak threads, there are pictures etc... about those wall signs.
Hard to explain without pictures.

And bugged Viper damage do around 40-45 damage per frame. Its physical damage. Using nature piece, reduces up to 11 damage, that cancels about 25%. Using also amulet, for example 25 damage reduced, cancel about half. Then damage reduced armor, or sol in armor/helmet, takes care of rest.

But if you have BO (=huge life) and tele, then just use your normal setup and kill Nihlathak fast. One nature piece helps here too, but not needed anymore.

Merc has only Armor and Helmet slot to reduce Physical damage, Gladiators Bane works just fine. If you have both BO, and Tele then merc survives there quite well without any damage reduced gear. And with tele, you can avoid almost all clouds anyway.
If no tele/BO, then then Gladiators Bane/Iron Pelt (sol) and Leech helmet should be enough for merc. To cancel out totally, you need that 40 for merc too, but even 20 helps a lot, keeps you time to save him/her.

Only advise to give, is that if you are not a char who can tele, it would be smartest of you to start out with the plain branch that is easiest to run. And then search in order of how much of a nuisance each branch is to go through.

From the images on the wall at each entrance, you can actually see which branch Nihla has spawned at, so you only need to go one branch everytime.

only thing is that I hate tomb vipers... so stupid it pisses me off. how do you guys consistently tele/run around when they spawn down there over 50% of the time....

Those who make melee keyrunners stack ignore damage in numerical numbers. I.e. not in % but numerical values like the Sol Rune gives.

I used a barb too for a while, and my fireball/blizz sorc for the other keys. Then one day out of laziness i went for Nihla with my sorc, to find out it was as easy or easier than whith my barb!

I have a cta, so I can eat 2 corpse explosions if needed. The vipers dont hurt as I stand still or tele away. I dont use natures Peace as I don't need to, but it will make it even easier I guess.

The tactics is to tele in and find a spot with a distance to mobs. You can then with the merc and fireball spamming keep all mobs out of CE range. Tele to a different corner whenever you need to, and target Nihla when most mobs have been blasted down.

5 minute keyrunning now, 7 minutes if every thing decides to test your patience. Tower and Arcane, and Meph as I fit him in too.
