Has anyone watched this movie?
Requim for a dream. I just finished watching it....... awesome.
Strange, but overall rather good. Brings across some strong messages about tv and drugs.
I liked it a lot 'til the end when it got annoyingly drug-paranoia on me. Of all the drug addicts I've never known, I've never known any to pimp themselves out to do live porn shows in front of a bunch of strange men for a fix, especially not if they are from a relatively well-off family.
I've also never known any drug addict to forego treatment on something as bad as that guy's arm for long enough for it to get to that point.
I've also never known any prison to get away with denying a prisoner medical treatment to that scale without getting the pants sued off them.
The message of the movie on a very basic level was good, by equating prescription drugs with illegal ones, but I felt that it took it all just a tidbit too far at the end and turned the entire movie into an anti-drug propaganda film that went well beyond the bounds of normal reality of drug use.
I'd argue that if you want to watch a heroin flick, you should go with Trainspotting.
I've seen that movie as well. Not as good as this one IMO. I think that the old lady went through the worst of it, she just started to waste away from the uppers and instead of trying to help her recover from the things she was seeing (like her fridge jumping at her) the docter just refilled her prescription and cut her loose. Scary, because the circumstances are so probable that it just might happen

C'mon guys...don't spoil good movies, at least warn the ones of us who haven't seen it yet not to dig into these threads.
The acting was flawless. Thumbs way way up to Ellen Burnstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly (of Labyrinth), and, believe it or not, Marlon Wayans.
Powerful (although somewhat exaggerated) portrayal of the potential downward spiral of addiction.
Aranofski's other film, Pi, is excellent as well.
Sidenote: Look closely to find Ajay Naidu (Samir from Office Space) in both films.
i bought it not too long ago. it was good.
I´ll agree with PLF that it does go over board a bit, except maybe for the way it paints amphetamines.
If I ever want to scare someone away from drugs I´ll probably force them to watch that movie. I don´t think I´ll watch it again... it really bummed me out the first time around.
fool in the rain
i had to watch it multiple times to understand it.
Its one of my all time favourites. and the soundtrack is just amazing.
Check out his first movie as well: Pi
just as good.
I just watched it last night....... what a great movie!
There was some guy working in the automotive section at the local Canadian Tire (its a lot like Wal-Mart for you Americans) who kept "clicking" his jaw while I waited for them to finish my oil change. I never knew what the hell was going on with that guy until I watched this movie.
After the part where Ellen Burnstyn begins to grind her teeth due to her meth addiction it slowly dawned on me that he exhibited a lot of tell tale signs of crystal meth abuse (deathly thin, grinding his teeth, nonstop jabbering and basically running around behind the counter). He was there on at least 3 seperate occasions.
The thing is, what the hell drives someone to try hard drugs? All they do is damage you very thoroughly both mentally and physically. I can't see myself doing anything other then what I'm doing now. My rule is simple, if I can't grow it then I won't touch it.
It's not just crystal meth, it's really any upper. You'll see a clenched jaw with adderall, ritalin, dexadrine, meth, amps, coke, or ecstacy (though usually 'cuz it's mixed with one of the previous).
And I think you're missing out. E and acid are definitely fun.
Naw, acid causes flashbacks and god knows what is in an E pill, always mixed with something else. Also frequent use of MDMA has been known to cause back problems
Flashbacks have never been conclusively proven. Period.
Secondly, if you use any of the MANY E resources on the net, you can tell what the composition of your pill is, as well as buy a tester to check how strong it is.
Of course, that would all involve being a responsible drug user, which would give a bad rap to all the irresponsible junkies.
All the stuff about E and your spinal fluid or whatever is not true.
And anyway, above and beyond all else, occasional moderate use of just about any drug won't cause long-term problems. There are recreational heroin users, as well as recreation cocaine users. As far as LSD is concerned, you can't do it every day even if you'd like to. And E would get boring REAL quick if you did it that often.
I'm all for responsible drug use, and it really pains me to see someone who advocates the use of certain drugs while spreading lies about other ones. How responsible can you be about the drugs you use if you know so little about the ones you don't?
Moderation is the key.
Im just saying what I've heard, I just dont trust synthetic drugs. I stick with weed and occasionally mushrooms. As for flashbacks not being conclusively proven my freind used to drop LOTS of acid and he claimed that he gets flasbacks every once in a while.
Again, the key is moderation. You don't need to drop LOTS of acid to have a good time
Uh, save the fact that mushrooms are supposed to do the exact same thing in heavy users. Let's not mention the fact that mushrooms can kill you, while nobody has ever died from an LSD OD (you need so little of it to trip off your rocker after all)...
If I said what I heard about drugs, than I'd talk about how if you do heroin just once, you'll be permanently addicted, and that drug dealers give away heroin to hook new clients, and how a guy my friend knew jumped out of a window 'cuz he took LSD and thought he could fly, and this other guy took it and thought he was an orange and got committed 'cuz he never snapped out of it and kept being worried that someone was going to peel him and squeeze him for juice, and I met this guy who had no spinal fluid 'cuz he did too much E, and this other person who did E and started humping a street sign...
What you hear ain't worth jack and squat. Go and research the stuff you're shoving in your body, and the stuff you aren't. If you're doing any drugs, it's in your best interest to be educated about ALL drugs, otherwise you're a hypocrite far far worse than those who have never touched a substance in their life in my mind.
I only research the drugs I choose to partake in. I wont touch the synthetic ones therefore I only know a little bit about those ones. I know where your coming from though, the things I said I've heard sound to you like the time someone I knew claimed that mushrooms made your brain bleed. I guess there's no point in arguing with you since you've done LSD and E before (Im assuming) and probably know a hell of a lot more then me.
Edit: I just noticed you linked to erowid. Very informative site. One of the best for info on drugs
