hardcore bands?

hardcore bands?

me and 2 of my friends are in the process of putting together a band. We want to play punk but one of my friends say we should play a little hardcore too. The thing is I've not exactly sure what hardcore is.

Can some of you hardcore fans give me a few good hardcore band names and what type of music it's closest to?

Some good hardcore music to start you off:

Poison The Well
Underoath
Atreyu
Every Time I Die
Alexisonfire
Between the Burried and Me
Evergreen Terrace
This Day Forward

Just a small list of some of the great hXc bands :D

Hardcore music usually needs some pretty good talent to begin with, and you need to have a very good guitarist other wise your music won't sound very heavy, as well as a screamer (vocalist, in hardcore it's mostly screaming)

I think in most of Between the Burried and Me's songs, they don't play slower then an 1/8th note.

Good luck with your band... me and my friends are thinking about starting one ourselves.

my friend described it as angry screaming emo. Is this close to what it is?

EDIT: ok i downloaded some of poison the well and this day forward and I hate screamo music like this. I like it when i can acually understand the singer. Sorry this ain't my cup of tea.

You can understand the singer, just get a feel for the words and it comes naturally enough.

My band plays a form of music that has some hardcore elements in it. You don't need screaming to be hardcore, just rock the **** out on the instruments. :yep:

Most of the hardcore bands I like are older. The new stuff has a lot of emo in it, which I feel removes them from the hardcore genre.

Despair
Earth Crisis
One King Down
Snapcase (Go download "Cognition" to hear one of the best hardcore songs ever, IMHO)
Strife

Some good hardcore/punk bands:
From Autumn To Ashes
Ignite
Thrice

Ahhh from autumn to ashes I saw them last november(I think  ) when I went to the alkaline trio concert. didn't like them very much.

A budding Republican wants to know what "punk" and "hardcore" are? :cheesy:

20 years ago, me and my crew would have called you "poseur" and thrown beer cans at you.

Wanna know what "Punk" and "hardcore" are about, or was about, way back then? Take a look at the heckling Head of State in my avatar.

Appropriate it if you will, but realize what it all stood for at one time, and what a derivative hypocrite you look like by trying to emulate.

I know what punk is. I just wasn't sure what hardcore was.

What do you mean I look like a derivative hypocrite? I'm not following you.

Hardcore is/was a subset of Punk, a musical genre that had a deep anti-establishment or even anarchist underlying ideology. It's a political expression as much as it is an artistic one, or at least it was in its original form. Maybe nowadays it's just a "sound" that y'all think is cool, but back when I was listening to it, thrashing in the pits, diving off of stages etc., the sound was angry and volatile because of the socio-political frustration that it was meant to express.

So, you'll have to forgive me if I fail to see how any right-leaning young adult could use Punk as a form of self-expression and remain true to its roots. Your ideology and Punk's original ideology are mutually exclusive.

I don't enjoy having to watch something that was a key part of my personal evolution turn into seemingly meaningless pablum, but my generation is far from the first to have to watch such a thing occur; maybe it's yet another part of growing up that I must grin and bear.

so your saying only left wingers can fully enjoy punk?

Just so you know I don't act or dress like a punk I just listen to the music and enjoy it. I'm not turning punk into "meaningless pablum", I'm simply enjoying the music.

and damnit i knew i shouldn't of put my political thoughts on this forum cause i knew it was gonna come back and bite me in the *** and someone was gonna use it against me. I guess i was dead on.

EDIT: one more thing, how come of all the discussions about punk we've had this is the one you want to call me a "faker" on?

In its original format it was an entirely left wing phenomena, that's what I am saying.

Just so you know I don't act or dress like a punk I just listen to the music and enjoy it. I'm not turning punk into "meaningless pablum", I'm simply enjoying the music.
Punk was never about how you acted, how you dressed or what you decided to do with your scalp and an electric razor. We threw beer cans at a lot of those people, too.

Hey, take my ire with a little grain of salt. You hit one of the few nerves of mine that are hittable, but my main goal is to make you think.

EDIT: one more thing, how come of all the discussions about punk we've had this is the one you want to call me a "faker" on?
See above. Look, if you and your friends wanna play some "punk rock", that's all well and fine, but be aware of that which caused it to coalesce in the first place, ie. conservative, imperialist politics, marginalization of the not-so-privileged and overt commercialism in the popular media. And think about it all a little. Boy, the more things change, the more they stay the same, eh?

Hardcore Metal Bands: When two metal genres are mixed, what is created can become known as a "sub-genre". However, when metal mixes with non-metal music, it tends to create a whole new genre. Hardcore is such a mixture ... made up of 1 part metal and 2 parts punk. The vocals are either punk or death, the lyrical content usually deals with some topic of social unrest, and the music has the intensity of punk with the discipline of metal (i.e.: guitarists can play more than 3 chords). The scene is primarily underground, and appears to neither garner nor lose popularity with time.
