hammerdin for cows

hammerdin for cows

My hammerdin is level 76 and has finished hell. Baal was killed in a public run, but he con solo in acts 4 and 5 okay. I made him to do cow runs but my concern now is that I will kill the cow king the first time out. With my current setup, I have no way to reign in my merc, so he killed the king in normal the first time out. (I do have a teleport ammy, but I'd have to sacrifice 3 combat skill levels to use it.) I'm not too worried about him killing the hell king in a few hits, but I'm sure that he can in NM.

My biggest concern is that once a hammer field starts, I may unable to avoid killing the king. My hammers do 4.3k damage and my freeze merc does about 500-3000 with reaper's toll. Would a slowed/decreped Cow King succumb to 8-12 hammers while my merc hits him a few times before I can run far enough to call him back? Of course, running without the merc is an option, but he is very handy for crowd control. I haven't run nm or hell cows yet, so I don't know if even need him.

If I intend to run cows regularly, is it pointless to try to avoid killing the king, and so I should just be prepared to make the cow games with another character?

Thanks.

Just stay back from the kings area and you should be fine, if you get too close make a tp go to town and back through the red cow portal.

Nah, i dont think you could ever kill a cow king quickly with only 4.3k worth of hammer damage

That's a good idea; I almost can't believe that I didn't think of that myself.

That's probably true for the hell cow king; I guess I should look up how many hit points he has. But for NM....I'll look up the numbers.

I just ran Hell Cows and it was cake. The chilled, decrepped cows didn't stand a chance. The merc kept it interesting by running into the middle of mobs while I tried to refill my blue bulb with redemption.

I was able to stay clear of the king without incident.

I have +5 to all skills, so one point in each of Meditation and Redemption takes care of my mana needs.

Insight on a merc would be good if I wanted to use an enigma and mf a lot, but this guy is for getting socketed items. He is not a boss runner, he is an area runner. He doesn't need to teleport long distances, and I may never put an enigma on him.

Decrep is helping a lot for now - great crowd control. Also, insight doesn't have life leech, so I'd have to change his helm too. I have an extra vamp gaze, but I'm enjoying his Darksight Helm for now. If he finds an eth 5os elite polearm, I may make Obedience for him though.

Some numbers:
nm king: 9768-11988 life ------- 15% magic res ----- 3 hammers will do it.
hell king: 25176-30898 life ------ 33% magic res ----- 8-10 hammers.

Nm king will go down if he comes into a hammer field. Hell king will survive if he walks out or through rather than standing still. If he's chilled and decrepified, and in hit recovery, he could die even if I run away. It's uncertain whether he'd die if I took a tp back (removing the chill effect).

Does anyone know what monsters do when no one is looking? If they usually stand still, do they stand still even if they're being hit?

Just stay away from the cow kings area and you will won't kill him. Not too sure on the monster question, if you were in the middle of a pack then tp'd out the ones closest might stay by the tp 'waiting' for you while others roamed around.

I have been avoiding the corral, and I'm not really trying figure that angle out. I just happened to be looking through the wiki for something else and happened across the info. I thought it was interesting to know that he could indeed be killed very quickly by a 5k hammerdin.
