    Alright I promised Cyrax a guard thread, and since he already did his, let’s get into it then.

    Guardian SirRiftALot

    This is a Rift Paladin, aptly named based on the weapon required for the build Rift Runeword. Essentially it’s a standard zealot build that uses conviction aura and relys on frozen orbs and tornados rather than weapon damage to clear out enemies.

    Build and Gear Progression:

    As a Rift paladin I pretty much followed the standard zealot build for skill layout, pump sacrifice and zeal (for up to 5 hits) during the early levels, one point in everything else for the time. Once conviction became available I focused on maxing that first, and then went back to finishing sacrifice and zeal. Lastly Holy shiled was maxed for the defense/block boost. I have 6 skill points left at Level 84, I’m undecided where to dump them for the time being between but will probably put them in either resist fire or resist light for the higher res. Stats were the same as always, enough strength for gear, enough dex for max block with holy shield, and the rest to vitality, none in energy of course. I remember respecing after final gear changes to get the right ending str/dex.

    Gear selection, for early leveling, the usual mish mash of random set pieces, including cleglaws, hsaurus’, angelics, khalim’s will. Switched into other items as they became available, I remember using butcher’s pupil and Zakuram’s Hand for a while until Rift was available. I used Guilaume’s helm before making the final switch to the Nightwing’s seen above which I got from Fred’s Giveaway. I couldn’t pass up using it for this build since it gave a 20% damage boost to the orbs which was nice since they seemed to be lacking later in the game and it was sitting gathering dust otherwise. I think I used venom grips before LOH, the 350% damage to demons doesn’t do much since weapon damage is pretty bad. Thought about swapping them for lava gouts for the free enchant, and I may still do that. I settled on treachery for the ias boost. Treach + LOH puts me at a decent attack speed breakpoint. If there is a better setup that I’m missing here though feel free to make suggestions because I don’t really need the fade, but I couldn’t really piece together anything that would really work better without dropping to the 6 frame zeal, and I rather not. Merc used insight for a long while until switching to crescent moon, as the static really helps bring the mob health down so the orbs can work faster.

    Questing and Gameplay:

    I started questing with Srrw and his rift kicker assassin named ink. Both of us worked using standard versions of our builds (zealot and kicker less the use of rift) until we hit the level requirements for the weapon. After that orbs were flying left right and sideways pretty much all the time and progress was pretty smooth (and there were always lots of pretty colors). His orbs shot off faster due to kick speed and the conviction aura helped both of us so it worked well. The play through took an unfortunate turn in Act 2 hell though as we were playing with some other people and for some reason or another we split off and srrw went off and deeded on me. My character stalled indefinitely after that (My hell andy screen shot is from 11-29-2013 and my last screenshots are from early February).

    As such this is where Cyrax and his Trap Sin came in, he was already in Act 4 of hell, but quested through the remainder of Act 2 and 3 with me and we took on Act 4 together. Goldtru joined in for Act 5 with her Fireball/Blizz Sorc. Progress was once again smooth and steady, playing the way through on P5. I remember most of Act 5 having terrible monster rolls everywhere we went, but other than that, nothing exciting. We made Guardian around 82 and did baal runs up to 84 at which point I call most characters complete. It’s not as cool as two Rift Guardians, but I’ll take what I can get. =P

    Most difficult part of gameplay I remember being unbreakable cold immunes. The orbs being my main source of damage it showed heavily when I was attacking one, so I would usually focus my attention elsewhere leaving them for Cyrax or Gold to handle. The physical damage of the build is also definitely lacking but it’s not overly noticeable as long as the orbs are procing consistently, but it does make most of the paladins skills pretty useless (I don’t know how much damage maxing sacrifice and zeal added but it probably wasn’t worth the points but there really isn’t anywhere else to put them). If I intended to play this guy on my own I’d probably make him a hybrid with holy shock and crescent moon switch for cold immunes. Do I recommend the build? Yep, tons of fun and throws some variety in there for the zealot based paladin.

    Interesting finds:

    Nothing interesting that I can recall. Maybe Srrw or Cyrax remember something I don’t though.

    Future Plans:

    Nothing really, maybe some multiplayer every now and again to see some more pretty colors.

    As i think i mentioned in my thread, we had pretty much the worst luck possible. Absolutely nothing decent dropped. Not even after doing several Baals. And also bad spawns of monsters all around.

    You forgot to mention bringing in your barb for some BO, which made this journey a whole lot safer (not sure if it was needed, but better not to find out it was in hindsight).

    I still think you shouldn't abandon your chars that early though. Get some into the 90's. It's fun!

    Thanks! I don't know what it is with infernostride but they are usually my go to since they have fire res and max fire res and I have a ton of them. Then I never end up switching them out. I guess there is a number of other boots that would work fine as well, but they seem to hold out time and again.

    BO Barb is always nice, even if I didn't bring him though I would have equiped a CTA switch, it would have just been a lower level, so one way or another we would have had some added life.

    I'll keep my characters going further as soon as you start doing more chaos/baal runs with me. =P

    And we need to keep making progress with our next set. Lets get on it!
