A couple months ago, I decided I should make a HC character and explore that side of the game. That said, this is my first ever Guardian. With HC trading a tad on the slow side, I had high aspirations of this character being my dedicated HC farmer. Trap Sin seemed like a good match for the role: decent life, good resists/damage reduction thanks to fade, safety from MB/CoS, alright damage, and all while sporting a more fun play style. So with the plan in mind, and not knowing anything about HC - I hit up the most experienced HC player I knew, and saw if he wanted to throw down with me. After he declined, I hit up @crawlingdeadman , and he reluctantly said 'okay'. The duo were off. The mana starved trapper, paired with a poison nova / summoning necro. Thanks to his lower resist, the meager trap damage actually felt pretty good. We sailed through normal difficulty, and early nightmare, in just a few sessions - all while rocking /p8, bosses and all. But all good things must come to an end... Soon I was alone. Some things came up with CDM, and he wasn't able to game. Like any true friend, I immediately abandoned him like he was hot garbage, and continued on my way. Spoiler CDM - I have a summoning/fire druid where we left off. Say the word, and we'll pick it back up. The remainder of Nightmare wasn't an issue. By now my traps were doing a fair bit of damage, and with no real immune monsters, I could farm any area I desired. I farmed Eldrich for a while, a found a couple Mal runes, and some other minor gear upgrades. Progress slowed down in Hell, but I didn't have too many issues until Act3. Seems like that act is especially heavy with lightning immunes, coupled with lots of little enemies. Act4 was back to smooth sailing, and I had a chance at a decent rune. At this point I didn't have 'Treachery' yet, so anything Lem or up was what I was hoping for. Spoiler Hot damn. On to Act5, which happens to be my favorite act, and a particularly pleasant act for a trapper. Back to farming Eldrich for some gear, before continuing on with the game. This is where I encountered my first main issue.... Assassin's aren't typically what I play, and when I do - I twink pretty heavily. With this character I was casting CoS as frequently as the skill would allow. With the Ancients this was no exception. When I reached the ancients, I placed down the hefty pool of potions that may or may not be needed, and began the fight. Soon I was diving, dodging, casting, ducking, and game crashing? I instantly queued up Hell again, and fought my way back to the ancients... laid down my carpet of potions, and crashed again. I did this numerous times.... I turned my second monitor off, closed down any unnecessary programs, and tried again... with the same results. Maybe this is common knowledge for you all, but you can't use CoS on the ancients, a quick forum search will confirm. So with that new nugget of information, I was back for round #103. With a salty attitude and CoS no where to be found, they went down. Madawc was both Fire and Lightning immune, but the merc whittled away, and it was done. Next was Baal: and most importantly... A couple nice charms that were put to use, and the rare claws she ended up using. Not a single skiller dropped, which was kind of a let down. Thoughts? I play a lot of cookie-cutter over powered stuff. So she was quite the change of pace. I typically watch either netflix or youtube while playing/mfing, so it was different not allowing myself to do that. I would also wait until my kids went to bed, and NO adult beverages were allowed. That said, there were no near death experiences, and no S&E to avoid death. A question I typically ask people in these threads is: future plans? I'm going to give up the untwinked status(I MP'd though, so maybe it's already gone?) and have traded for some upgraded gear. I plan on MFing with her, and gearing up a couple more up and coming HC characters.
