She did most of the game carefully and methodically without too many NDE's. I'd made a similar build to mid-hell previously so there weren't too many surprises for her. The Hell Ancients were certainly an experience (which you can read about in the HC Ladder thread (1st page) if you wish), with the 13th spawn of them being doable for her.

The WSK itself, after an aborted first run was quite easy the second time around, even with Vipers, Spawners and Black Souls on the 3rd level. Teleport really is just about the best skill in the game. ;)

Her best finds were Taebaek's Glory in WSK 3, M'avina's Embrace from Baal himself, the stuff she was wearing, Jade Talon, Titan's Revenge, Spike Thorn, Heaven's Light (eth for uber damage), Trang's Claws, Trang's Wing, Tal's Fine-Spun Cloth, Whitstan's Guard (x2 or 3), M'avina's Tenet, IK SC (x 2 or 3), Dangoon's Teaching (x2), Dark Adherent, Aldur's Stony Gaze as well as a number of Exceptional uniques including 2 Burrito Cannons.

She now retires from the ladder to don some "non-ladder" MF equipment to take on a role as my primary (for now) Grail runner.

Feel free to ask any more questions, and good luck in your own quests.

Congratulations! Hopefully I get to Guardian someday as well. If I can stop abandoning characters long enough to stick with one that is...

What's next?
Good question. Hmm, I might go back to an Amazon for the next one, apparently that's what I was fated to play having found a Titan's and 2 Burrito's with Helene-Marie. ;)

Either that or I'll push on my Trapper or Skelliemancer.

Congrats Butz. :) One down, six to go. :D If the death beetle hadn't been we'd have twin guardians... oh well, sooner or later one of my sorcs will make it through, too. :)

Btw, what's going to be the next one?

Awesome Butz baby, simply awesome  . Esmeralda (my HCL sorc) has new confidence in that the guardian quest has been accomplished. I have a few questions for you.

I was wondering if you completed all quests? Minus the Ancients which one was most difficult for this build?

I made a sc version of your character and was disappointed in ES. How did you apply it, and how did you avoid the "mana burn swamped by monsters unable to teleport problem"?

Do you think a 1 point invesment in enchant or the armors is worth it?

Finally I read about the Ancients battle-I am a little confused on how you checked the mods. Did you just rapidly press esc while holding the cursor on the Ancient and trying to glimse if he was fire-enchanted while he was just breaking from the statue form or did they go for your merc and you checked while he was tanking the first hit?

Thanks,
Isaac

A well deserved congrats! I feel your accomplishment was made doable by the Minions of Bad Luck finally stepping aside. Gonna post something about your next Sept/SPHCL runner in the SPHCL thread.

1. I didn't bother with Nihlathak in any difficulty, even though he isn't too bad for a Sorc, I just couldn't be bothered, I don't like the quest. The main problems I had were in areas with lots of CIs before my Fireball became really strong. From memory about the toughest area was Act 2 Hell, mainly because there were a lot of places with tough CIs mixed with FIs needing some tricky work. The Claw Viper Lair was where I had the most NDEs, Tal's Tomb was tricky, but I did Duriel himself pretty easily.

2. The easy (and wiseguy) answer is don't get swamped, but indeed it was pretty much what I applied. In areas where I knew there were quick monsters I made sure I never got far in front of my merc, if that meant three steps then teleporting onto myself, so be it. Whenever I was in a rush to get somewhere and was teleporting through areas I hadn't cleaned (Meph runs), I turned ES on, held down teleport and held my hand over the rejuv key. Having some FHR and FCR helps too.

3. Given that I guardianed without them I guess I'd say no. The armours could help I guess, but I definitely wouldn't bother with Enchant, it was very seldom that I relied on my merc to kill things (look at his end-game weapon for evidence of that! ), and Enchant adds fire damage right? The only thing my merc ever had to kill was FICI bosses once I'd gotten rid of the minions. As it is most builds are skill point intensive, so you'll have to decide if they are worth the reduction in your offensive output.

4. Yep, ESC as soon as I hit the altar, but it's a second or two until you can see his mods, I would use ESC about 5 times before I got to see it, but didn't want to try to "time" it incase I waited too long. My Merc was just between us so that hopefully if he got an axe or two off, he MIGHT go for the merc.

5. No prob. ;)

Congratulations Butz :worship: Have one on me :drink:

I'm encouraged by your achievement as I started essentailly the same build a couple days back. I hadn't decided if I would use the armor skills yet - now maybe not. Thanks for the tip.

Esmeralda appreciates the advice, one other question I had was how long did you go with the MF ancient armor for? Right now I using stealth and even those mods seem a bit better than straight mf for taking on the ancients, or the act bosses as survival in hardcore is paramount.
