Guardian Five mono lite/ES sorc

    I recently deeded the amazon I was working on for my sept and didn't quite feel like creating a new char, so I finished up this sorc instead to feel good. She had been parked in A3 hell and ran meph, some LK, and the countess. I've acquired some semblance of wealth at this point thanks to this girl, and I'm quite happy with how she functions. For some reason I've once again lost the ability to/forgot how to imbed screenshots, so forgive the blandness.

    I named her Five, because she was the 5th in a line of sorceresses with her descendants deceasing tragically.
    The first died to hell countess, when I decided to try and improve my efficiency by teleporting on top of the countess and charged bolting rather than using lightning from a distance. This resulted in instant death from fire explosion even on p1 due to quite low health and mana.
    The second died to some archer pack in the jail in normal difficulty, when I tried playing in windowed mode while watching esports on the same screen, which also had a quite intense glare due to the darned sunrise shining on it (need a lot of excuses to justify dieing in normal a1 :oops:)
    The third died to NM council, when I was 100-0 due to fire explosion by the last council dude that I didn't respect enough. Mightve also still been cursed.
    The fourth died to ??? I don't remember, and I mightve gotten the order of this list wrong. All of them were lightning/CB/telekenesis/1pt ES, but Five was the first to have max block in addition to decent hp and mana pools.

    Five had more success since I played with a bit more respect when farming, but several areas in hell ended up with me just teleporting blindly since lightning immunes were too much of a hassle to kill. Had to reroll chaos sanctuary since Grand Vizier spawned LI/PI, and I rerolled ancients since madawc spawned stoneskin on top of his LI which made my hireling tickle him. Hireling also died another attempt. Finally I just put a spellsteal on my weapon switch to use on madawc to help my hireling kill him. I got black souls on one of the levels and in the throne room (LI, physical resist, mana burn is extra dangerous for this char) but I played it safe in the throne room and drew them out a few at a time. None of baals minions spawned LI, which made it quite pleasant.

    I mainly played fire sorcs as a noob on ladder back in the day, and never really gave lite sorcs a chance before now. I was intrigued by using ES for the possibility of breaking the rule of 1 vita = 2 hp for sorcs with energy and %max mana. Still I ended up deciding to go for HP > mana so I wouldn't die to mana burn or blood mana curse and opted for trang cdr over frostburn mana. However, I stuck with nightsmoke for the 50% damage taken goes to mana and found some other items and charms with good mana bonuses. I also opted for max block on this final sorc after reading several forum discussions (although , and overall it ended up as a pretty sturdy sorceress. HP is only 900, but mana adds an extra 850 through ES, and insight/prayer combo allows for regen of both bulbs as do potions. Dual tree sorcs probably can't afford the points for ES (maybe FO/FW?) but I could see it having use on a pure blizz sorc (meph) or pure fire sorc (andy) aswell to put the mana bar to use defensively. Once you have infinity and you won't get meditation ES probably falls off for pvm though.

    I spent a lot of time MF'ing, so it's hard to mention any notable drops since they rarely happened during questing. Vex for HoTo was while leveling in arcane sanctuary (previously wizzy). SoJ was from NM travincal which I farmed for gold on my barb for a bit. Rest was from NM andy or hell meph I guess. Hellforges were lem and hel o_O.
    I have plans for new charcters, but I've become spoiled and want to wait for a gear piece here and there to take them beyond normal. Back to farming it is then!

    Wow :) My hardcore guardian-to-be necro is still in normal.
    Congratulations ! :) I also put energy up to 50 points but strength is up to 100 (+ more if something really interesting would appear). 0 dexterity so I have 4% block with 25 base dex (no cool heads - no block) so at least I have a lot of HP (426, 100 vita, about 50 HP from charms).

    Sorcs can be quite fragile indeed. Hopefully she will live long, prosper and bring a lot of nice items for your other characters to-be.

    The dex for block instead of the extra health from vitality seemed to work great for you. I'm going to keep this in mind for my sorceress! Congrats on the guardian Panda :p

    Does DTM do anything for ES? It's not supposed to, according to the guides. You'd need hundreds of percent DTM to get anything out of it. I think Gloom's Trap would be better.

    Thanks :) DTM works on physical damage taken after ES, so with 50% reduction 1:1 hp:mana ES and 100% DTM your mana bar won't budge from physical attacks. I don't have a prebuff memory staff and only 1 hard point in ES (also little flat DR) so physical attacks that aren't block still deal damage to my health pool which translates to mana (approx 50% less mana loss with the belt). Would probably be fine without, but I liked the idea and had lost my Gloom's Trap, and when I found an arachnid mesh I decided to save that for a bone necro.
