Guardian #2 - Juliana - Third time's a charm

    When i came back to d2 after a long hiatus (mainly Dota2/World of Warcraft). I wanted to make a sorc for the usual farming (Mephisto/Andy/LK/Pindle). So i created Cassandra, the untwinked meteorber.
    Sadly i killed her out of stupidity at act5 hell while farming Eldritch (yes, i suck):

    After that rip i was a bit shocked because i had never experienced a death like that. My hardest rip until then was on act1 NM while farming Andariel.
    The very next day i was pumped, i wanted to recover the time invested. So i jumped straight to the game, created another sorc and started playing as fast as i could.

    The second day after Cassandra's death i was at act 2 hell with Anailuj. After a good session of LK with my untwinked Fishy (Sur + Mal @300 runs) i decided to rush act3 and then go to sleep. What a mistake:

    Tough, very tough. At Least my Fishyzon project was going well.

    So this brings us to my third attempt:


    Juliana, the BlizzBaller

    She was played early as Charged Bolt/Nova, respected at lvl ~25 to Pure Blizzard, and in late Nm i started putting skills into the Fire Tree.
    Its a twinked char, but almost exclusively for hell.

    Congratulations, I'm glad to see that you persevered. I hope that now you understand how much the highs of HC outweigh the lows :)

    Question; what players setting was this? I don't remember ever finishing at level 78 :p

    HC can be frustrating but it's so much fun to play. Everything feels more rewarding, at least for me.

    @Kitteh I progressed through the game on /p1 but stopped at some points to grind levels. Mainly act3 n, Pindle NM and a bit of Eldritch.

    A slightly belated congrats! I've killed a couple hardcore sorcs in A2 hell, and due to the meticulous nature of how they were played (full clears single pass, p8 norm and nm, as many merc kills as possible for MF purposes), their deaths were pretty painful. I think that whenever I get back into hardcore, playing this more fast and loose style is probably a good way to go - less invested up front so dying on the way to guardian is less painful. I'm enthused by your optimistic "back in the saddle" approach. No guardians for me yet, but a fire/cold sorc is still #1 on my priority list for once I've finished up my current SC goals.

    I really enjoy playing untwinked on HC, im a bit tired of it though at the moment (mainly because of 4 chars played in quick succession). But for me it just clicks, for example i built my first guardian for WSK running. I farmed everything with her. Andy, Meph, Eldritch, Pindle, LK, just to find a setup to run safely at p1.
    If i dont rip her i will update her guardian post as soon as i have everything set for WSK.

    Fire/Cold sorcs work wonders, and there isnt a lot of difference between twinked and untwinked counterparts. I even feel that going without Spirit Monarch is safer for questing on HC (mainly due to higher hp pool)

    What I like most about fire/cold sorcs is that they (out of the 3 dual tree sorc combos) are best equipped to deal with dual immunes, due to instant halving of HP with static followed by TK stun lock to help out the merc immensely. As for no Spirit monarch, either a higher life pool or max block both become possible so that flexibility is nice too in the event you find the right shield.
