Grief vs. Fortitude

Hey there :)
I'm playing a 1pt smiter/zealot and i've got about enough wealth to afford a Lo but im unsure which of these runewords i should make.
I know (or, at least I'm pretty sure) that grief adds more smite dmg than a forty but is this also true for zeal? and how big is the dmg difference? (I've read the first 30 or so pages of the 1pt smiter topic but didnt find any exact values)

I'm currently using:
Gullis Face "15ias"
Cats Eye (will replace this with a highlords sooner or later)
Gloom Scarab Husk (made this for resistances&def when i was pretty low on them)
The Redeemer 294%ed +115dmg "Shael"
3pDiamond Gris Shield
Draculs
Nos Coil
Gore Rider
Rings are Ravenfrost&Dwarven Star
I've also got a Treachery armor for Fade prebuff so I'm still capped against meph usings salvation.

I've killed the ubers & DC pretty easily with this setup (just meph was a little problem cause fade wore off *cough*)
I'm also thinking about playing an Amazon so the forty would be useful for her aswell whereas the grief would be limited to my pala.
Any help?

Re: Grief vs. Fortitude

fort is very useful for zealots and also zons can use it but grief is only useful for smite.

fort gives 3 times weapon dmg to zeal dmg and 3 times shield dmg to smite dmg.
grief when calculating smite they say

(shield dmg + grief dmg + plus...) * %dmg

but weapon dmg

(weapon + plus...) * %dmg + grief

so for smite grief increases smite dmg very much but not that high zeal dmg.

above is what people say...

for my zealot setup fort increases my zeal dmg by %25 total -> 4k to 5k , smite dmg 1.4k to 1.7k
tried grief and zeal dmg 4k -> 1.3k because weapon was stormlash and it has weapon dmg range of ~10-300 but grief pb will only have base pb dmg 35

smite dmg is calculated differently from zeal dmg and it doesnot show on character screen correctly.

i suggest u go with fort first then earn cash with selling torches and buy grief :) but some shall suggest reverse hehe

Re: Grief vs. Fortitude

Heya i suggest grief over for since the +damage on grief isn't shown on zeal either
I was trying to figure out what was better for a zealer botd or grief so i used this weapon damage calculator http://www.baronsbazaar.invisionzone.com/ppr/

the on screen damage didn't match the calculators results but the effectiveness did

I strongly suspect that people have been saying lies to you.

Yeah, it's (weapon + the damage from grief and other items like wartravs) * off-weapon ed * (1-enemy physical resistance)

Re: Grief vs. Fortitude

ty for your replys :D
i've used that weapondmg calc but the outcome makes me want to use fort instead

Base Weapon: Phase Blade
Damage +X: 380
Str&Dex: 180
Total of Skill Bonus To Damage %: 709% (lvl20 fana+zeal)
Average Damage: 4084

Base Weapon: Mighty Scepter
Weapon Enhanced Damage %: 294
Damage +X: 115
Str&Dex: 180
Total of Non-Weapon Enhanced Damage %: 300%
Total of Skill Bonus To Damage %: 755% (lvl22 fana+zeal)
Average Damage: 3945

with this small increase in dmg with grief over forty, i'd perfer the forty as i can use it on another char other then my pala (as said atm im fine with my uber killing speed) or did i do something wrong using the calc?
