    Grief or Heaven's Light?

Hey all! Need some opinions from you.

    I have a lvl 85 smiter. Here's a quick gear breakdown

    Shako w/ "Um"
    "CoH"
    Verdungo's
    Dracul's
    2x Bul Kathos'
    Mara's
    Eth. "Exile" Vortex
    Gore Riders
"CtA" on switch (it's a maul, all I could find 5-socket)

Now, for a main weapon, and here is where my question comes in, I have either:

    Heaven's Light w/ "OhmZod"

    -or-

    "Grief" Berserker Axe

Now, the character screen, which I've been told lies sometimes, shows my damage to clearly be higher when I'm using the Heaven's Light. This, I'm sure, can be attributed to the +3 all skills. However, I "feel" like I do more damage when equipping the "Grief" even though the character screen clearly shows my overall smite damage to be over 400+ less than with the Heaven's Light equipped.

    My actual question:

"Is there some hidden damage bonus with 'Grief' that I'm not seeing displayed on the character screen? Or am I really making things up in my head, and I'm actually doing better damage with Heaven's Light equipped?"

Thanks for taking the time to read this, people. :D

the char screen "lies" when u use the grief as its a bug. so add 340-400 dmg to the base weapon which is the zerk and u will find ur dmg then.

    grief is certainly better imo.

The grief runeword gives 340-400 damage to your atack including smite and its not visible on your char screen. For smite grief>all.

    just to be exact :
smite dmg with heavens light = shield smite dmg multiplied by all % dmg mods from str / skills / equip (except weapon ed)

smite dmg with grief (or other weapons with + dmg) = ( shield smite dmg + the extra damage on grief which varies between 340 & 400 as akybo mentioned ) multiplied by all % dmg mods from str / skills / equip (except weapon ed)

so when you think about that grief adds a huge load of damage to smite

If youre using your smiter for ubers, you can do it with a heavens light, but grief is way better if you have it or can afford it. for pvp, i dont know **** when it comes to smiters :p

griefZ is still one of the best weapons for pvp, for pvm it will be mostly a grief pb due to hitting last bp with even 30ias pb.

If you are pvm/uber only, you'll do it just fine with heaven's light. Ofcourse grief dmg is much better, but not necessarily needed.

Wow, thanks for all the quick replies guys. All this info really helps. Just to clarify, I'm strictly PvM / Ubers. No interest whatsoever in PvP.

Based on all your info though, I think I'm going to stick with the "Grief". My other question would be, do you think I'm OK with having the "Grief" in the berserker axe? Or should I try to get it in a phase blade?

Thanks again for all the quick replies! :D

grief phase blade ftw, no question about it imo

the damage difference between zerker and phase is hardly noticable when you consider the +350-400 dmg. Phase blade is so much faster its not even funny.

read my post above and it'll answer what u need and reason :)

the zerk may have more range but is slower and u will need more ias to hit the last bp.

for pvp you need the range from zerker since you cant really afford not being able to hit people
for pvm you need the ias from pb so you can focus on getting res/cb on equip, range doesnt really matter then since all mobs just group on you

    PvP Grief zerk.
    PvM Grief PB.

In general, a Grief Zerk that hits the 34% IAS and has 370+ ed can fetch a 390+ Grief Phase easily. It's your call if you intend to trade off the zerk since the phase utterly pwns the zerk in PvM.
