Grief and smite

I recently traded for the runeword Grief to make my smiter pally that much better. To my dismay when I equipped it I saw no damage increase from the bonus 384 dmg. Whats going on? Thanks

what about the chance to cast venom? Thats not going off either.
How can u tell? Venom is over 0.4 seconds, so it hits and its gone just as quick, so u only have less than half a second to see a monster green from the venom poison.

The way I understand the Grief damage to work is that it adds it to your damage after it calculates for monster defense and such. About the venom, does it cast from smite, dont you have to hit with the sword itself to cast ?

Grief is added to HS/direct shield damage, thus before smite% and aura%, which makes it insanely powerfull (shield is like 50 avg, HS adds like 100 orso, and now grief adds an easy 384...)

Venom doesn't cast from smiting iirc, like said above, zeal around to see venom get activated, as long as the skill remains active, your sword will be green.

Smite doesn't transfer ANY elemental damage.
Unless there's a chance to cast an elemental attack on any of your equipment. Smite will set those off.

Even a "bad" 340 damage grief is an awesomely powerful weapon.

Note that when venom kicks in your character screen could show your damage going down. That's because venom takes ALL poison damage from all sources down to 0.4 secs duration. That way a 100 over 6 seconds PDSC will go from 100 damage to 6.667 damage. Kinda nuts, but the faster you hit (zeal/frenzy), the damage goes way up. I had a grief PB on a frenzier last season and the venom was quite effective against PI's in hell.
