Grief and Berserk

Ok assuming my Barb has 300 magic ed from Berserk, 173 ed from Axe Mastery, 186 ed from level 9 Fanaticism, 174 strength, and 90 maximum damage from charms. He is using Grief Berserker Axe. Which case is right?

Case 1:
min = 24 + 400 * (1 + 3 + 1.73 + 1.86 + 1.74) = 3955.92 magic dmg
max = 71 + 400 + 90 * (1 + 3 + 1.73 + 1.86 + 1.74) = 5234.13 magic dmg

Case 2:
min = 24 + 400 * (1 + 1.73 + 1.86 + 1.74) = 2683.92 physical dmg
max = 71 + 400 + 90 * (1 + 1.73 + 1.86 + 1.74) = 3551.13 physical dmg
min = 24 * (1 + 3) = 96 magic dmg
max = 71 * (1 + 3) = 284 magic dmg
minT = 2683.92 + 96 = 2779.92 dmg
maxT = 3551.13 + 284 = 3835.13 dmg

Most people would say Case 1, but I heard +damage and vengeance gets calculated differently, so maybe this is too.

It's case 1. The result is correct, but you forgot a pair of braces, so I guess it's just a typo.

min = (24 + 400) * (1 + 3 + 1.73 + 1.86 + 1.74) = 3955.92 magic dmg
max = (71 + 400 + 90) * (1 + 3 + 1.73 + 1.86 + 1.74) = 5234.13 magic dmg

Not that it matters much, but fractions are rounded down.

The character screen has as bug with respect to displaying the correct damage of Grief, showing far too less, so don't panic if you see it ;)

AFAIK the +dmg from Grief isn't multiplied with off-weapon %ed when using vengeance, so it's far less effective as is should be.

IMO it's not worth it to put Grief into anything but a phase blade, except you need a range 3 weapon (e.g. for WW barbs, but I would prefer BotD in a two-hander in that case). You will have to repair a BA all the time (very annoying), it's slower and the damage difference is 3-4% of the total damage. A fana-zealot with a perfectly bad Grief weapon will hit the final breakpoint with all his attacks without needing any other IAS sources.

a related question: Does on weapon ed affect significantly? i recently made grief into 6% sup phase.

On-weapon %ed is applied to the weapon's base damage, so the expression in the first bracket will become (24*(1+0.06) + 400) and (71*(1+0.06) + 400 + 90) respectively.

Berserker axe hits the last WW breakpoint with 34 or more IAS on Grief, yes I need a range 3 weapon for WW. I don't really care about repairing it all the time as long as its not too expensive. Plus only Beast can be in an axe/scepter/hammer and its best in conjunction with Grief so I think Berserker Axes are the best choice. True Grief BA will have a lower trade rate, and only 34+ ias ones are really worth anything.

You have to repair a BA very often. In the last season (when I was rich :uhhuh: ) I made a Grief BA for my zealot and he had to repair it after each solo Baal run. I guess a WW barb will have to repair it even more often. Thank god it had 34+%IAS, so I sold it for a low Grief PB and a few Ists. I never regretted it. As you said, Grief BAs with less then 34%IAS won't hit the final WW breakpoint which makes them far less valuable, so it's risky to do that.

Well I will probably only use Grief BA only when dueling. When I can afford it Botd BA :uhhuh: for PvM.
