This will be my first HC experience and my first ever time playin a zon, so whilst i enjoy a bit of light natured ribbing as much as the next person no horribly mocking me when Rakanishu chops my head off in the cold plains!! (hence the name)

OK, couldn´t resist this. Say hello to yet another of my multitude of tourney Phoenix Strikers. I´ll go with a cold mage and maxed Shadow Warrior in this one. There are many reasonably good set one-handed weapons for this build. Also, any Sigon´s 3-combo involving the gloves is high on the wish list.

Added name. I chose a sorceress since I don't particularly enjoy playing them, and this is a chance of getting some moral support. I will be focussing on Blaze, with so far undecided support. I will use either an Act 1 merc, or Act 3. Not sure of what I want yet really. Time will tell.

Bummer for the ATMA change, I've already sold all my non-green jewels and stashed other than emeralds within my community stash. :sad:

But anyway. I decided to play Albert so that he only buys scrolls or potions and uses all the rest of the money for either gambling or repairing equipment.

Albert started with a nice welcome from Warriw and chatted with him about caravan protection for a while. But then it was time to introduce himself to the leader of the camp: Akara.

Akara gave Albert a mission and he immediately started to fullfill tha old lady's wishes. Nothing special happened except that there was one gem shrine on the Blood Moor. No emeralds though. The first emerald dropped from the first rogue pack in the Cold Plains and it was promptly upgraded.

Killing Blood Raven was quite easy and now Albert continues his escapedes with Klaudia his hencemaiden.

Score is 3 (wps) + 4 (quests) - 12 (level) = -5. :sad2:

Everytime I hit the town I've gambled with Gheed. Bought quilt armors and light belts trying to get arctic gear. That would have 40% MF as partial bonus. :wink3:

How about green potions? Are we allowed to use them as weapons? or
Are we forced to use them as weapons?

Avarice, the mix-and-match assassin seems like a viable build. Traps, Venom, Blade Fury and Shadow Master should provide enough offense, while Cloak of Shadows, Fade and Mind Blast offer some great defensive abilities. Add some utility in the form of Cobra Strike and Dragon Flight and we're good to go. Technically the build wont even need a weapon to compete. :wink3:

No problems so far.. just like linkato1 I've been gambling every penny for some artic gear, would you believe I managed to gamble a uniqe armour but no greens as of yet! SO 3 waypoints and 2 quests makes -5 points at lvl 12.

btw am I right in thinking that if the first 3 green weapons I find aren't bows then I'm gonna have to chuck in my bow and arm myself with one of the greens? What if I find two green non-bow weapons, can I take an unarmed merc instead of putting my own bow down?

Quality bit of fun btw, thanks a lot!

Leveling is a breeze for a summoner even on players 8. A lucky drop off Blood Raven leads to a temporary lead of +1: 2 Waypoints(2) + 2 Quests(4) + 1 Set item equipped(3) - 8 Levels(8)

The first, rather hilariously boring, part is done. Dorothea started out from the rogue camp, wacked monsters to death with her staff, and finally had enough money to actually buy some javelins. After that things were slightly better, but she nevertheless hired a fire rogue before killing Bloodraven. It helped some.

Knowing that I could not use them, the game dropped me 8 chipped topazes before Bloodraven, and zero emeralds. Of course. I found one nice jewel, but unfortunately not green, so no help there. I found a staff with +3 to shiver armour which is nice for now. But it won't last.

No problems so far. I saved Coldcrow for last, as usual. This would be the perfect time for her to finally drop the Gull. But she didn't. I had gotten Blaze by now so I tried to kill her with it, running small, slow, slow circles around her, but no luck. I had to finish her off with javelins.

As for my future plans, I really don't know. I have just spent the skill points in prerequisites up to Blaze, Static Field, Warmth, Telekinesis, and also built up to Fireball. I am not sure what to do. Blaze will be my main skill, but I would like one point in Hydra as a scout, and I am contemplating some Meteor for those annoying monsters who won't follow me. I don't know how viable that would be without synergies though. I don't want to specialize to heavily in the fire tree. I might add some cold in some way, but I don't know how yet.

Yeh Jiansonz i agree with you.
What i should of said was you may change your merc during difficulties however if your merc was weaponless (due to already 3 set weapons droping and your merc was incapable of using it), then your next merc must remain weaponless until the next difficulty.

Is it impossible to find a 4th set weapon?

Could I join with a character on the realms if I only make private games and never comunicate with anyone else? This way, I could use the character on the realms after the tournament is over.

I'm in, this sounds like fun. Anyone notice that it was posted on Saint Patrick's day? Particularly appropriate. I've been making characters named after their builds to ensure I can keep them all straight, and have been meaning to make a Javazon, so here it goes. I'm not sure the exact build, reading some of the Amazon subforums guides before I start.

I think that some problems you could have when you will found some green weapon beacuse make lightning fury using vidalas bow or angelic sickle is very hard job :grin:

Green potions are not set items so you are not forced to use them. And because they are of white text you may use them as weapons.

If you follow the rules and never comunicate with anyone then ok. However if you break this rule you are disqualified.

And no it is not impossible to find a 4th set weapon. Its just most characters only have 3 slots for weapons (primary, switch and the merc). Such as characters like barbarians who handed have 5 slots if they opt to go with dual weapons.

Hmmm, the rules will definitely almost force people to pick a non-melee character as Green weapons seldom do much damage. The no-rerun rule with such low mf will make it that much harder. Perhaps allow people who are willing to try melee builds the chance to re-run bosses a bit so they can go for an IK weapon, or alders/bulkathos etc. Otherwise you will see a lot of caster characters with maybe a few brave frost/light zealots who can get some off weapon damage.

That is not entirely true. Yes caster characters are probably easier and safer but its not impossible for a melee character. Paladins have thier aura's so a high damaging weapon isn't really needed. Druids can use fireclaw and maul etc. And Barb's (probably the hardest) have zerk.

So i dont see any need to provide melee characters the ability to re-run. It is just harder for them, and if you want the challange then by all means go melee.

Ps. I have decided that i will most likely, futher down the track use ATMA as an extended stash. Although i have no idea how to :tongue:. I guess i can just make characters in the game and use them as a means of muling.

PSS. Welcome everyone, i have a good feeling that this tournament will rock, and by the turn out so far, it looks like it will :thumbsup:.
