Graphics dodgy in-game

Since ive been back in Diablo, my graphics have been ever so dodgy.

Check these 3 pics to see what i mean:

If i ALT-TAB out of game, and go back in, it sorts the problem, but something dont look right along the way.

I have Nvidia Geforce 6800GT, i used to have the 66.93 drivers but they caused a few system problems so i went back and am now using the 61.77

Anyone seen this before?

I guess you made photos because the PtSc screenshots look OK, right ?

My guess is that your gfx card respectively the driver doesn't support the color depth Diablo uses. That's rather surprising, as I always thought Diablo runs with 16 bit colors, but maybe it's running only with 8 bit (which would explain the color effects with the portal when Meph dies, for example) and some of the newer gfx cards or their drivers don't like that, I heard.

Does this happen all the time, as in, you never have the proper colours? Or does it only happen every now and then?

If it happens every now and then, then something similar to that has happened to me before, though mine had alot of psychedelic colours. The problem for me was that other programs were trying to run in the background, and taking focus from D2. It might be the same for you. You might want to run ad-aware or make sure no other programs are trying to get focus.

If it happens all the time, then it must be something with your video card. One thing you can do is to make sure the drivers are DirectX compatible (run dxdiag, click the display tab, run both directdraw and direct3d tests). Otherwise, I'm sort of at a loss

Edit: Are you using Glide mode to play D2?

NVIDIA Chipset Cards:
Problem: Under Direct3D, the textures are all garbled.
Solution: Download and install the latest Detonator driver from (http://www.nvidia.com/Products/Drivers.nsf)

Id say, 40% of the time when playing Diablo ina day, is where the screen goes like that. I did do a print screen a few days ago, but it came up fine so i had to revert to my trusty DigiCam to sort the lies.

I always had to quit Diablo and restart it (The game) but then i found that Alt-Tabbing to windows, then opening the Diablo box back up, sorts the problem all the time, but its rather annoying to say the least.

I used to always relise there was going to be a problem, when just joining a game, and the "Dark Wanderer" opens the door to connect to the game, it would go all Multicoloured and whacky, looked cool, but whacky.

The drivers that i do have now shouldnt have a problem, i used to always revert back to them when a problem arose, like my "Knight in Shining Paladin Armour", but where would i go in Diablo to set Glide or see if its pre-enabled?
