Good-paying job without the computer?

Good-paying job without the computer?

As in the title. :)

What jobs are out there that both pay good and require little or no contact with computers?

From the possibilities I've scouted out so far, they are:

Management
Consulting (?!)
Corporate english lessons
Other corporate training
Sales

Any other ideas? The above, it would seem, focus heavily on talking to people and relating to them. And I'm not entirely certain jobs like management are suitable for everyone, even if you spend the time and money to get a degree.

Lots of service jobs. Physical jobs.

I'm curious though, do you dislike working with computers?

What about a trade? Mechanic, electrician, plumber, roofer, construction, etc.

Hm, physical jobs tend to be at the lower end of the payroll, though.

As for the computer: medical issues.

having to use a computer is a sure way to earn a low paying job. Everyone has a computer and knows how to use them.

Your list is probably some of the most intensive computer use jobs there are.
Who do you think most non-gaming programers are writing programs for?

Unless you figure sending all emails via blackberries.

SALES? o now I get it, you don't count lap tops as computers.

QFT. The jobs referenced in the OP are tremendously computer intensive in virtually all aspects.

As mentioned, about the only types of jobs that you can do anymore that don't require a lot of computers are either labor (physical jobs), or other journeyman types of jobs (i.e. electrician, plumbing, etc.). Even with these jobs, many companies will want a person to have some level of computer skills as you'll likely need to come in contact with computers for customer billing, etc.

Computers are pretty hard to avoid in the workplace nowadays.

Trade work is probably your best bet. You can make pretty good money as any of the trades AeroJonesy mentioned.

Any sort of white colar job that pays well will require you to use a computer.

Will have to stick to my english lessons then, maybe work on a trade. -.-

By sales I meant door-to-door.

Thanks for the info then. :)

Door-to-door sales? You'd be better off doing something more physical.

If you Tree Plant in Alberta/Northern BC (summer job only), and are a really hard worker/really good at it and get on with a good company, you can make 300$/day or more for as many as 70 days in the summer. No computers.

Re: Good-paying job without the computer?

I'll throw in another vote for trade jobs, pretty much all I do at school is learn to write business software for all levels of a company. The things listed in the first post are all things I coded for specifically(OK, not English lessons, but training in general).

Even at a trade job though you'll probably have to do inventory/sales on a computer somewhere in the day, it makes it much easier to file taxes and follow expenses when the reports are generated for you.

Hah what a joke. I'm a highschool educated painter. Still an apprentice but I still make $4000-5000 a month after tax working in Oslo, Gothenburg and Copenhagen, depending on if I want to work three and a half or four and a half days a week.

You're worried about pay scale but you're thinking of selling door to door?

Plumbers and construction workers are rolling in it, the fat lazy bastards.

Plus they work whenever the **** they feel like it, "appointments" aren't really a part of their philosophy.
