Going for a six-pack

Going for a six-pack

I have a bit of a beer belly on me and want to get toned up. I don't want a proper six pack, just to get rid of my overhanging belly. I was thinking of doing 200-ish sit ups every night but I'm not really big on the whole fitness thing so I don't know whether there are any exercises that are more effective (quicker) than sit ups - without me spending any money - or how long it would take. Anybody care to shed any light on the subject? Please? :)

Re: Going for a six-pack

Well, these past four months, I have been told that I got a lot skinner (I was quite pudgy during my first year of university), I weighed myself recently and realized that I lost 20 pounds.
My secret? I have been living off-campus during this first term, and so I have also been cooking for myself. That, with the fact that I have no money to begin with makes for quite a terrific diet. Also, walking around a bunch on campus is all the exercise I (apparently) needed.

So I guess my advice to you is to eat a lot less, walk around a bunch, become broke and ope the results show up soon enough!

Hold off on the mince pies.

My roommate recently purchased that iron gym (the pull up bar you can prop up on a door frame). Leg lifts are great and often times better than crunches (mostly because people don't "crunch" correctly). But if you don't have access to a pull-up bar, then poo.

Pilate and yoga works well for me. I prefer leg lifts over sit ups.

I have not an ounce of fat on my belly.

Its a matter of work.
Situps are great but dont completly sit up just go half the way up, its betetr for the spine.
Its a matter of sweat and work my friend and there are little shortcuts.
I would also add jogging. You dont really need to eat less if you only have a beer belly. That cuz your not overall fat. Eat the same but work out and the belly fat willl eventually be converted into muscles. Running also triggers the whole body to build muscle not only the legs.

Numbers dont matter. Just do them situps as long as you can. You can go reaaaaly slow. Its even harder. When your totally finished do a 5min break and repeat it. Do it every second day and run daily. In 2~3 months you should notice a great improvement.

How well does that thing work?
Got my brother one for Christmas, it works pretty well. I like how it has the different places to put your hands, so you can do wide or narrow pullups, and you get those handy bars in the middle. It is supposed to work well with situps, it gives you somewhere to put your feet so they don't come off the ground.

Does it feel like it's going to pop off the door frame when you do pullups? That'd be my biggest worry.

No, but I didn't use it much. Plus, I'm quite light, so what supports me may not support someone with, say, a beer gut.

Eating a diet with low carb n saturated fat intake and reducing your meal sizes along with a good cardio workout will do more for you than sit ups n leg lifts. It doesn't matter how many sit ups you do if you don't burn the fat you can't see your six pack

My wife got all excited about those and bought one but has never ever used it.

Mind you, that's the usual female attitude to exercise.

You can dig up my garden in spring. 1000 m² are just waiting for you, that's about 1/4 of an acre. I will provide free food and lodging - including a six-pack of beer for each day with a good performance.

Re: Going for a six-pack

Remember that you'll never have a (visible) six-pack if you don't eat properly. Have a good breakfast, drink lots of water, no sugar, etc.

But be sure to eat enough. You need to build muscle and being hungry destroys muscles more than burning fat.

This is what I eat a day, though I weigh around 86-87 kilograms (that's something like 180-190 pounds?) and do strength exercises at least four times a week over 90 minutes, so you'll probably want to scale down some ^^. Also, you can only see some minor shapes of my six-pack (everyone has a six-pack, just often not visible), so doing some cardio and maybe cutting some fat is needed to really get out the six-pack.

Breakfast
Three sandwiches, one with cheese (lots of protein and good fats), two with meat
One plate w/ yoghurt (calcium, vitamins, proteins & good fats, but does have some sugar...)
Two glasses of milk (see yoghurt, but without the sugar)

Extra's
Sometimes two sandwitches from lunch
Sometimes carrots (don't like 'em, but they're healthy)

Lunch
Six sandwiches, two w/ cheese, three w/ meat, one with peanut butter ('cause I like it that much...)
Two glasses of milk
One apple

Extra's
One mandarin (spelling?)
Sometimes more carrots

Dinner
Whatever mom cooks up ^^
Desert: one plate of quark (spelling??) <== HIGHLY recommended!! Twice, sometimes more, proteins as milk and yoghurt, almost NO fat!

Extra's
One or two glasses of milk sometime before going to bed (but make sure to use the bathroom before going ^^)
And sometimes some yoghurt/quark/cheese

To sum it up: lots of koolhydrates (no clue on how to spell that) throughout the day, lots of protein, some good fats, lots of products with calcium, two pieces of fruit and sometimes some extra vegetables.

Free lodging will come without soap, so if mince pies has none, he will be safe from what you are thinking of. But he will have to take care with our village idiot, he's strong as an ox and he has a bit bad luck with girls, so mince pies will have to watch his back while working. Bribing him with the beer works quite well, however.

...How much are plane tickets from England to Germany?

On a more serious note, does anyone have a proper daily diet I can follow, rather than the "sandwich" diet Arkardo is proposing (no offense :p). Also, I might think of taking up jogging every night and buying one of them iron bars. Any ideas on prices?

No offense taken!

Perhaps it was a bad example. There aren't many people who's jaw don't drop to the floor when I take out a bag of six, often more, sandwiches. :scratchchin:
The idea is that you do NOT starve yourself to lose weight, but instead take in enough energy. Of course, if you only need three sandwiches, then eat three. Also, if you just don't like bread, use any good substitute. It's all just an example! ^^

Re: Going for a six-pack

according those bars you can buy and hang in doors. I have one.
It can manage the weight of at least 100kg.
But for rapid movements its rather bad.
It uses to distabilize when i practice rapid pullups and i only weigh 80kg. It can result in a major injury.
But if you take it slow its ok.
