    go north??

a friend and i just both lost our chars in a4 hell this past weekend thanks to a misunderstanding. the plan he created was that if things got nasty we'd run north and regroup. well things got nasty and we ran... in different directions. a little confusion, a little lag, a whole lotta burning souls...deeds x2.

so i was just wondering what is the common conception of what 'north' means to the hc community.

I'd have to say it depends.

In places like Chaos Sanctuary or Wolrdstone 3, north to me would mean towards De Seis or towards the minions (upper right).

In a place like Durance 3, north would be towards Meph (upper left).

Anywhere else, I'd assume north meant straight up... so that's where my vote goes.

I REALLY can't understand why you'd go up in the first place? Wouldn't you just run into more monsters? I mean like... DUH!
So, not quite your brightest Idea...

    Wise words.

If you didn't want to use TP's for some strange reason the best plan of action would simply be to run towards whatever area you just cleared regardless of direction.

There is no north but Blizzard North, and everyone knows BN is in California. To me that's straight left, but I voted for upper-left. Because that's where I point the bat. Oh yeah. No, but really. No, just no. I'm a dorkus.

When people say "go north", I usually go straight up on my screen, paying zero attention to what direction that actually is in the game.

    Seconded.
The same would also apply to the word "up"... Since you guys were in plains of despair (or maybe city of damned, don't THINK I've ever seen souls there though) north would be top of the screen in my mind.

I ve never seen anyone use map directions ( north , east etc ) in D2. Just too much left for interpretation. Definitely dont see why you just didnt s/e or Tp back to town

I've used it before. I was in this clan where they roleplayed everything, so it doesn't really count :uhhuh:

Anyway, normal north is always the upper side of the map, so my vote goes for going straight up. Which doesn't always means you run into more monsters, there are plenty of areas where you go from north to south, west to east or vice versa.
